Rant: Sweet Jesus when did the thought police take over

Ok, I have something eating at my craw in the world of politics that i am going to rant about.

You served, Good for you.

People who serve in the military did a great service but it doesn't get you a pass

the Democratic campaign in 1972 was lead by a peacenik who blew stuff up in WWII

Bob Dole never got to say you can't question my leadership cause i climbed up a cliff

Max Cleland blew his limbs off in an accident

that sucks

Max Cleland Helped fix some problems in the VA

that was heroic

Max Cleland becomes a senator and loses why

Because he voted in a way the majority of the folks in his state didn't like

Was a slimy ad used; Oh certainly

Does that make the point of his not supporting things the folks in his state felt was vital to their security matter less; absolutely not

does the fact he blew off some limbs in a war accident mean he can do anything he wants in the field of national defense and not be called on that: H*** No!

Some of our best Wartime presidents never served in actual combat, does that mean they didn't know what they were doing?

We won WWII didn't we?

So Just cause you served your country that doesn't mean your thoughts on national security are mana from heaven.

John Kerry Served in vietnam, lets even say he served as honorably as he says he did, does that mean his missing public meetings of the Senate Intelligence committee was ok cause he served in vietnam?

His supporting huge peace dividends in the DOD and CIA?

his voting for the 87 billion dollars before he voted against it?

the John Kerry who was a US navy officer didn't do any of those things

The John Kerry who is a US Senator did.

John Kerry the Senator can be called on the carpet for stuff people don't agree with

thats what we have here in representative government Tom Harken, when people do dumb things we can say THATS DUMB

Dick Cheney never served in Vietnam, but is widely considered one of the Best mayors over at the faulty city

so shouldn't that count more then being in combat for four months then sitting at a cushy desk waiting for it to be time running for congress?
