Clinton sleeps on floor so elder Bush can have bed

NEW YORK (AP) -- On their tour of tsunami damage in Southeast Asia, former President Bill Clinton once allowed his predecessor, former President George H.W. Bush, to sleep on the plane's only bed while he stretched out on the floor.

The government plane in which the presidents toured the disaster area had one large bedroom and another room with tables and seats, according to an interview with Bush in this week's Newsweek.

Bush, 80, said Clinton offered ahead of time to give the older former president the bedroom so he could lie flat and avoid paining his body. Clinton, 58, decided to play cards in the other room that night.

The next morning, Bush said he peeked in and saw Clinton sound asleep on the plane's floor.

"We could have switched places, each getting half a night on the bed, but he deferred to me. That was a very courteous thing, very thoughtful, and that meant a great deal to me," Bush said.

Bush said he and Clinton are not close, but have been compatible on the tour, partly because Clinton respects his age.

The March 14 issue of Newsweek hits newsstands Monday.

Sweet bippity -howard dean agrees with me sorta-

On OXBlog i saw an argument i have always made coming out of the mouth of howard dean

However, I have also said that the U.N. bears a portion of the blame for the Iraq war. The U.N. did not understand that sometimes action is necessary and talk is not enough. There is often too much dithering in the European Union and at the U.N. when action is needed. The shameful reluctance of the European Union to intervene forcefully in Bosnia in order to stop genocide is one such instance. The ultimate failure of the entire world community, including the United States, to stop the massacres in Rwanda is another example.

The U.N. does not seem to learn very fast.

but Howard said more

This spring, the U.S. pushed a resolution through the U.N. Security Council threatening sanctions on Sudan for their disgraceful conduct. The already weak resolution was watered down at the request of a number of countries, including the Europeans.

Europeans cannot criticize the United States for waging war in Iraq if they are unwilling to exhibit the moral fiber to stop genocide by acting collectively and with decisiveness. President Bush was wrong to go into Iraq unilaterally when Iraq posed no danger to the United States, but we were right to demand accountability from Saddam. We are also right to demand accountability in Sudan. Every day that goes by without meaningful sanctions and even military intervention in Sudan by African, European and if necessary U.N. forces is a day where hundreds of innocent civilians die and thousands are displaced from their land. Every day that goes by without action to stop the Sudan genocide is a day that the anti-Iraq war position so widely held in the rest of the world appears to be based less on principle and more on politics. And every day that goes by is a day in which George Bush's contempt for the international community, which I have denounced every day for two years, becomes more difficult to criticize.

Now is the time for the world community to act if they are serious about encouraging an enlightened leadership role for the United States. My challenge to the U.N. and Europe is simple: if you don't like American diplomacy under George Bush, then do something to show those of us in opposition here in the U.S. that you can behave in such a way that unilateralism is not necessary.

As i have told friends Howard Dean would have kept me voting libertarian or doing my write in (Kent/Wayne in 04 baby) cause thoughts like this plus his tax modification are not utter incompetence like Komrade Kerry

Komrade Kerry

Newsmax

Komrade Kerry has decided, instead of -say- Appointing african Americans to high positions in his campaign decided to honor the founder of the NAACP

who was
(Words in Red come from the Newsmax article)
  • A Stalinist
  • an apologist for Stalin and his excesses ( think Ward Churchill)
  • a Eugenicist
  • a Racial Seperatist
  • twice ejected from the NAACP for his opposition to racial integration.
  • During the Korean war in 1950, in which 54,246 American service men and women would die, Du Bois said that "the North Koreans are fighting exactly the things for which Americans fought in 1776."
  • Three years later, he eulogized Soviet dictator Stalin - one of history's worst mass murderers - as a "great" and "courageous" man, "attacked and slandered as few men of power have been." In his posthumously published autobiography, he called the crackdown on religion behind the Iron Curtain "the greatest gift of the Russian Revolution to the modern world."
  • After a 1937 visit to Nazi Germany, he admitted that the Nazis had stamped out freedom, but nevertheless praised the Hitlerites for creating "a nation at work after a nightmare of unemployment; and the results of this work are shown not simply by private profits, but by houses for the poor; new roads; an end of strikes and labor troubles; widespread industrial and unemployment insurance; the guarding of public and private health; great celebrations, organizations for old and young, new songs, new ideals, a new state, a new race."
  • He failed to mention concentration camps and the gas ovens that consumed millions. And while condemning anti-Semitism, Flynn noted, Du Bois called it "a reasoned prejudice" in Hitler's Germany.
Way to go Komrade Kerry

Ok... I know it's sweden but.......

Don't they have better things to do to their police then fat nazi them?

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) -- Portly police have a new reason to work out thanks to a new security entrance at the National Police headquarters that won't let them in if they weigh too much.

A construction error in the recently remodeled security entrance, which has a built-in scale designed to only let one person at a time pass through the door, has caused some embarrassing moments for officers who may not have spent enough time exercising.

Those weighing more than 230 pounds who try to pass through the entrance are greeted by a recorded voice telling them: "Stop! One at a time!" and are not let through, police spokeswoman Linda Widmark said.

yes i know its a joke and all

but more then just fat people way over 230lbs

DeLay's new district wound up several percentage points less Republican than his previous one, and it has a substantial and growing Asian American population.

"When you're drawing the lines, you have to set the example," DeLay explained late last week as he traveled his district during the Presidents' Day recess. "If you're going to maximize the number of Republicans that are elected, everybody can't have an 80 percent district. If you're the guy that's sort of leading the effort, you can't tell your members, 'Well, I'm going to dilute yours, but I'm going to pack mine.' "

Because Clearly this worked well in NK

from Al-Reuters

By Steve Holland

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush was leaning on Thursday toward backing Europe in offering incentives to Iran to persuade it to give up nuclear ambitions, U.S. officials said, in a significant shift in strategy toward an arch enemy. .....

We're continuing to look at how we can best support the European efforts, and make sure that those efforts are successful, to get Iran to abandon its nuclear ambitions," he said.

U.S. officials said under the new strategy, the United States would not block Iran as it seeks to start the process of joining the World Trade Organization, and would not stand in the way of European allies if they want to sell Tehran parts for civilian aircraft. .....

Some U.S. officials believe offering incentives will strengthen the international community's hand by providing a united front for punitive measures, such as U.N. sanctions, if the incentives do not work.

Supporting Europe on the incentives would mark a significant shift in strategy for Bush, who has been reluctant to consider them before to avoid being seen as rewarding Iran for bad behavior. ....

It can take years of negotiations for a country to enter the WTO. As a first step Iran could be granted observer status, a stepping stone to full accession.

Countries granted observer status must begin the process of moving toward full membership within five years. Actual entry into the WTO can take years beyond that, and the United States could still hold up those talks indefinitely.

Ok George lets review

we gave North Korea new nuclear reactors

gave them food and cash

gave them fuel oil

they continued to develop nukes

we said to Libya "if your good we'll get sanctions off you" Libya abanonded their program and was rewarded

Option A failed
Option B passed

so why george are you running the A play on Iran?

why are you considering allowing the EU to sell parts that can be converted to military use?

what foggy mind at foggy bottom convinced you of this idiocy?

After being honored, Pinkett Smith gave a warm, teary thanks and shared life lessons with the audience.

“Don’t let anybody define who you are,” she said. “Don’t let them put you in a box. Don’t be afraid to break whatever ceiling anybody has put on you.”

She told the audience about her childhood with teenage parents both addicted to heroin, but triumphantly exclaimed, “I can stand here on this stage and say that I’ve proven them all wrong.”

She then addressed issues regarding the roles of men and women today.

“Women, you can have it all—a loving man, devoted husband, loving children, a fabulous career,” she said. “They say you gotta choose. Nah, nah, nah. We are a new generation of women. We got to set a new standard of rules around here. You can do whatever it is you want. All you have to do is want it.”

“To my men, open your mind, open your eyes to new ideas. Be open,” she added. In an interview after the show, Counter said Pinkett Smith was “the best we’ve had thus far.

Quick Syrian Pullout Has Substantial Risks

wow.... i had no idea, now where would they have sourced this shocking knowledge from?

The outgoing pro-Syrian premier even warned that the Lebanese military, built up by the Syrians, could again splinter into warring factions - a comment that angered some Lebanese and prompted the army to insist it is capable of maintaining unity.

hmmmm MAYBE he could be a little biased?

I mean those protesters.... you know the ones from all the waring factions all wanted his government to fold up

i mean MAYBE he isn't a good judge of these things

"If Syria leaves Lebanon uncomfortable, will our situation be stable?" warned Interior Minister Suleiman Franjieh, a staunch pro-Syrian. If Syria withdraws, he added last week, "it could say it is not responsible for security in this country, and tomorrow every party begins to do what it wants - and we know the Lebanese if they do what they want in politics. Within a week we will tear each other up."

huh another PRO-Syria government person saying this will destroy everything

The army "is from the people and the people are divided," Karami said. "We've tried this before and the army disintegrated. Should we again go through this experience of this magnitude and damage?"

Karami also asked who would disarm Shiite Hezbollah guerillas if Syria leaves.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Teenagers in Orlando, Fla., are leaping between 80-foot high public parking garages in a new trend called "garage jumping," according to a Local 6 News investigation.

Local 6 News reported that the thrill seekers are vaulting themselves between garages in downtown Orlando

yes folks its another game of "I'm a moron and it's your fault"

Tim Bargfrede told Local 6 News that he was following friends when he attempted to garage jump and did not make it to the other side. Bargfrede fell six stories and was knocked unconscious on impact.

"I just didn't make it," Bargfrede said.

now ... clearly he choose to take some behavior which gunny highway clearly taught us was an unatural act

"He (Bargfrede) is not he first person, he is not the second person, there have been four or five other individuals before him that did this," family's attorney Vincent D'Assaro said.

many morons

Orlando Parking Garage Director Samuel Vennero admitted he was aware of at least one other incident where a garage jumper didn't make it to the other side.

"I don't think we recognized it before as a danger," Vennero said.

cause who in their right mind would try to do this

now, if they knew about it... probably should have done more then this

There are no safety fences in place on the parking garage.

D'Assaro is filing a lawsuit against the city of Orlando and the private garage owner for making little effort to correct a potential deadly risk.

"There was a very, very short length of fence that was completely ineffective in preventing this from happening," D'Assaro said.

well he could cut the fence

I don't speak Kleagel so clear this up for me some one

Byrd spokesman Tom Gavin denied that Byrd, D-W.Va., had compared Republicans to Hitler. He said that instead, the reference to Nazis in a Senate speech on Tuesday was meant to underscore that the past should not be ignored.

and then what did the kleagel say

“We, unlike Nazi Germany or Mussolini’s Italy, have never stopped being a nation of laws, not of men,” Byrd said. “But witness how men with motives and a majority can manipulate law to cruel and unjust ends.”

Byrd then quoted historian Alan Bullock, saying Hitler “turned the law inside out and made illegality legal.”

Byrd added, “That is what the nuclear option seeks to do.”

ok so saying the republicans are trying to do a similar tactic to hitler isn't compairing them to hitler

huh?

Byrd joined the Ku Klux Klan as a young man and has repeatedly apologized for it. Now 87 and the Senate’s longest-serving member at 47 years, he prides himself on his knowledge of history and makes historical references frequently during debates.

Funny they don't mention how he lobbied for the Klan and continued to make rascist comments for many years after being a Klansman

Hey isn't this profiling?

While Patterns of Global Terrorism does not report the religion of the victims, an analysis by FDD of the 2003 report reveals that Muslims are far more likely to be victims of terrorism than their share of the global population would suggest. Muslims constitute about 22% of the world population, but closer to half the victims of terrorism are Muslim.

The Purple Shadeed

The Purple Shadeed

While I am limping about on a busted up ankle, I’ve been thinking and thinking often leads to blogging. For years we have seen “shadeed” or Martyrs promoted by the state and media in the middle east ( who are often the same thing) these Shadeed brought murder, death, and terror.. But a new shaheed has arisen. For years uprisings have been crushed, we have seen the results of the “hama” rules in the middle east over and over again.

While a lot of conservative folks are crediting George Bush and his doctrine, I think we need to get real and give credit where credit is due. I think the credit really does belong to the purple shadeed. While George Bush made their sacrifice and strength possible, I think what is causing this seed change this very paradigm shift was all those purple fingers.

They could ignore the people in Afghanistan because the Taliban was always the C- team. But in Iraq, the heart of tyranny on a truly soviet/Naziesque scale along with the belly of the Wahhabi-al Salaif/Muslim brotherhood beast here we had a perfect storm of every evil thing in the middle east. Every boogey man that has scared generation upon generation of men and women in that part of the world was ready to slay the nascent free Iraq in its sleep.

But they stood up. When the criminals closed down for a short time their polling place, they brought more people there to spite these vile monsters. For the first time, perhaps in the entire history of this early cradle of human civilization the tyrants and their ideological help mates could not use fear. They could not threaten people by even taking their lives. The people were going to stand strong.

All the media, the very media which denounced the occupation and the “puppet” government of the occupation saw this strength. They saw this power that their maker had granted to each and every one of them and they said “why not here?”

In Lebanon a popular former Prime Minister stood ready to with his life campaign for one united cause, a free Lebanon. He gave his life but it seems with it may have went any chance for Syria to build its greater Syria

In the Palestinian authority the game of triangulating the terror death squads to make Israel look like a fool in the international community have stopped. The allegations made by Israel, and implied by the Palestinian authority of Syrian interference would have been welcomed by Arafat now they are rebuked.

In Egypt we see the first cracks that the state of emergency, the virtually Stalinist state of the Mubark regime is starting to crack, and freedom from the police state may be just around the corner.

The UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and even Saudi Arabia have began to allow more and more of Democracy to happen for their own people.

As our founding fathers stated, these people who have suffered so much now have learned through blood that they have right endowed by their creator, that no man has the right to take from them.

While America carried this torch for them and many others we have failed in the past grievously to light that torch in the hearts of others.

In the 50s and 60s people rose up against communism and we did very little.

In the 80s we let the spirit of democracy be wounded possibly fatally in Tiananmen Square.

But that has changed, that willingness to say “this is our flame, not yours” will no longer be tolerated in Washington.

This flame is a weak flame right now, and we must protect it. Because we failed the people in china, in Iran, in Hungary, in Poland, and in so many other places when the cold wins of those very vile dehumanizing forces destroyed their flames and left a few embers in its wake. We have failed those people, so we cannot fail those who follow the purple Shadeed.

When we talk about prescription drugs, raising the minimum wage, state funded health care… if one dime of that spending prevents us from doing this most moral of duties, then that welfare state is bought with the blood of every future Tiananmen Square. I will not buy my comfort with their blood, and I will not tolerate political leaders who will.

The Purple Shadeed have stood up, now we must stand with them.

it came from Al Reuters

my email to Michelle Malkin

and while i like most of your work, and secretly wish you weren't married ;-) i do have some things i wanted to point out from said article

(A new music genre -- "emo" -- is associated with promoting the cutting culture. )

Emo is not a new Genre, it has been around since the 80s. It is a genre very popular with people suffering from depression.

( This madness would not be so popular among young people if not for the glamorizing endorsement of nitwit celebrities such as twentysomething actress Christina Ricci. Several Web sites I researched highlighted the same quotes from Miss Ricci describing her experiences with self-injury: )

As cutting is normally a form of depressive behavior , as the Ricci quote described, i think it is less an issue of glamorizing

Now here is to Ms Ricci talking about her depression:

""I wanted to see if I can handle pain. It's sort of an experiment to see if I can handle pain." Depressed folk have a pain obsession.... as they can't "feel" happy they work with a form of feeling they can control

"No. You get this endorphin rush.... like you really don't feel anything. It's calming actually." by not feeling anything she is describing her depression

so this doesn't glamorize to kids who aren't already suffering from problems

"...You know how your brain shuts down from pain? ...and I wouldn't be as anxious. It made me calm." he continuing to show herself as depressed

people who cut are mentally ill, not social misfits

("I just found out this week that my 14-year-old daughter is a 'cutter.' She has a 4.0 average, eighth grade, goes to a good school, and is well-liked by all who know her. She is popular, has two homes (mine and her dad's) with supportive, loving families in each.)

I don't know the kid but it sounds like her life is focused around presenting a false image, when she is really feeling like utter tripe inside which is a standard cutter pathology. since she has to be everything to her friends, family, and school for her cutting is the only way to control her life and not be the puppet of everyone else.

(She had links to Web rings about cutting, suicide and broken hearts as well as images and poetry. Her friends all feature cutting/suicide links, icons and song lyrics as well. )

More signs of depression here

( "The counselor at her school told me this: At her middle school, '70 percent of the kids here cut or know someone who does. It's cool, a trend, and acceptable. Boys do it as well but are more public about it. ...)

#1) this school counselor is an idiot as cutting has been known to be a sign of mental illness since at least the 70s ( as i have a friend in his thirties who set off a red flag with his school's guidance counselor over it)
#2) 70% of the kids cut or know some one who cuts... well if 65% of those kids know the 5% who do that sure is different then say a 35/35 split ergo.... guidance counselor=idiot
#3) It isn't a trend when it is a diagnoses mentally ill behavior. when you commit a behavior that is accepted by the clinical mental health community as mentally ill.. it ceases to be a trend ergo.... guidance counselor is an idiot

your article probably would have been better if you had consulted some one with a mental health expertise on the subject

so remember there were signs of depression everywhere in your cutters

the ramblings of a depressed celebrity will only effect depressed people

and the guidance counselor was an idiot
