The Mason-Dixon Florida poll, conducted by phone for The Tampa Tribune and News Channel 8 from June 14 through Thursday, shows that if the election were held now, an unusually large number of Republicans would vote for Nelson.
The poll also shows that the number of voters who dislike Harris has remained high since 2000's disputed presidential election, in which she played a key role as Florida's secretary of state.
``These negatives are a very serious problem and would be difficult to turn around,'' said political scientist Lance DeHaven Smith, of Florida State University.
If the election were today, 53 percent of respondents said they would vote for Nelson and 36 percent said they would vote for Harris.
I look forward to the Florida voters (hopefully) finally getting tired of her.
But leave it to the trib to not dredge up (like I did) all of her previous corrupt acts.
because the Tampa trib feels Florida voters are stupid
Brad Coker, director of the poll, said Nelson also should take comfort that he would draw more than 50 percent of the vote and that only 10 percent of voters have a negative opinion of him after nearly five years in Washington.
Nelson has been a prominent elected offical in Florida for some time now.... MAYBE thats why he is polling so high.
If Bense were to run, the Panama City developer and mild-mannered politician would have the benefit of a generally well-received year as speaker and his own $9.5 million fortune.
Lee, asked whether he would run against Bense in the primary, paused and said, ``No, I would prefer not to.''
The Senate president is a more moderate lawmaker than Bense. He cut a maverick's course during fights to curb the influence of lobbyists and slow some of Gov. Bush's more conservative initiatives. He could have a tough go of it if Bush does not offer his powerful fundraising network.
``This is an incredibly expensive state to run a primary in,'' Lee said. ``Without the financial resources, the best man doesn't win.''
and with the Power of the Voters in Lower Alabama you can't win as a republican in this state....
