Who is afraid of being alive

Who is afraid of being alive?

This is a question that hit me today in religion class. The actual teacher of the class was talking about the perception of reincarnation in the west and in the east. She spoke of starvation as part of the reason they feel a desire to escape the cycle of life.

She used that as her reason to attack the consumer/modernist culture for the day. But herein we see two problems.

The First Problem: Consequence of living in a wealthy culture vs. consequences of living in a culture of poverty.

If I am reincarnated in to another American body, which is a big if, I will concede fully what my teacher said regarding material threats to my survival but I have as grave threats of a spiritual and mental nature in this world.

I could be reincarnated; into a household that I would suffer with abuse, I could be born mentally of physically incapacitated, I could be reincarnated into a world of poverty and violence in this nation of wealth and prosperity, or I could even be reincarnated into a traditionalist life here in this nation that alienates me from the national culture.

And this is again assuming I am only reincarnated into a lifecycle here in this country which is a huge assumption.

The Second problem:
You do not know even in the world of India with its guru’s the nature of your prior lives. The doctrine of escape while appealing perhaps to the lowest castes is impossible for those same castes (and not all Hindu worshipers are on that page) to make that escape they believe in.  Instead a life born of privilege is asked to escape from the cycle of death and rebirth.

This is both a critique on her view of Hinduism and a little bit to the valid theologies she pointed to.

If the cycle of death and rebirth is to escape this world, then this world has to be something one must escape. With all the flaws in this world I am sorry to say I don’t want to get off. Maybe if the sun is a red giant and our cities are turning to lakes of molten metal, plastic, and stone… then I might want to jump off the world. But I live in a world where we may have problems but the fruits of man’s labors can make them better if we try.

To me that is what reincarnation is about. Learning how to make the world that we as humans should have, instead of receiving the world we deserve

RINO SIGHTINGS: Trick or Treat edition

(( Trackbacks to come a little later))

It was a day like any other in RINO sightings land, as I started to lay out my preparations for all the boys and girls coming to get their hands on candy.

Sure enough a Knock came at the door.

and it was that darned Surber kid from down the road

"What are you little boy"

"Why I'm an ubersexual."

"Really" I ask more in shock and confusion he shakes his head.

"I'm in a wiener dog costume, how ubersexual is that?" but he was nice enough to explain to me what an ubersexual was

and he told me "Hey Mr. I think some one is at the back door." I gave the little boy-dog his milkbone duds and send him along his way.

Another knock came on the front door. A young kid was dressed in black with white face paint and a long fake tongue.

"Well what are you little boy?"

He laughed and took out his fake tongue "I'm George Bush trying to say he isn't a big spender. I knew he was Gene Simmons so I gave him a Zero bar to go with his 70s costume.

A cowboy came up the lane.

"That's a nice Cowboy costume you have son." he twirled his rope " I'm a Pork Boy I'm here to rope me some politicians." and he quoted the Maryland Sec. Of Transportation

The funding plan for the ICC, which the Maryland General Assembly endorsed during its 2005 session, includes a combination of creative funding sources

He was so creative in his costume I tossed him out a variety of things Baby Ruth Candy Bar, Kit Kat bar, and Smarties too.

But that weird Esmay kid showed up in a giant white garbage bag

"Umm are you a ghost?"

"No Mr. I'm an amoeba." I asked him how I could tell he was an amoeba but he was more interested in challenging the philosophies against Intelligent design. I wasn't an atheist or an agnostic so I really didn't care... Though I did perk up when he talked about SETI. But I told him to wait one moment because I had a special treat for him. I went into my kitchen and got out a can of chicken soup scratching out chicken and replacing it with "Primodeal" with my sharpie....

That Esmay kid is just weird.

Jane from own the road came over dressed as a Belly Dancer.

"that's a nice Belly Dancer costume Jane"

She looked to her left and to her right and whispered in my ear "Mr. I'm really a American Reporter under attack from the Yemeni Government. "So you're in Disguise" I say.

She nods her head as I give her a pack of smarties.

"Thanks Mr." She says as she walks back down the lane.

Then another kid comes down dressed in a trench coat and wearing sun glasses. It was Ken down the road "Man Don't you get it don't you know what toll house cookie MEANS?"

tollhouse cookie [[made with a recipe used at the Toll House in Whitman, Mass., near Brockton]] a kind of chocolate chip cookie

i tried to calm him down as he went on about the AP style guide and Kleenex's. Next thing I know he was screaming about the "Do Not touch the Air Monitoring Equipment" sign he saw on the subway over here. By the time he starts talking about 2000KIA day I ask him "Kid what Kind of costume are you wearing?" he shakes his head around "Sorry, since all the tax-breaks went to the rich, I couldn't afford one
this year" I gave him some milk duds and sent him on his merry way.

that Mr. Proliferation kid was coming up the road next.... what is up with the kids in this neighborhood and their weird names. He told me he was a vampire and looking for Hypocrites like the ones involved in the Steele is Sambo fiasco. I told him not to let those other kids beat up on that KOS kid much. That kid aint right. I gave him a candied apple and sent him on his way.

then I saw something really weird wandering down the driveway

Luckily the kid explained to me what an Orac is and then went on further to say "You don't have to be a brain in a box to know a poem about killing the jews and loving the Nazi's isn't worthy of a great minds prize.

I put a three musketeer's bar ontop of his box and let him roll away.

I finally checked the black door and a kid was dressed as Kanye West telling me that George Bush doesn't care about black people because he wants to give them more welfare.

I asked him if Walter Williams put him up to this but he didn't say.

I gave him an apple since he went through the back door.

The first little kid came up to the door dressed as Harriet Miers. Harriet Miers scared the pants off me so I hid for a moment before finally getting some candy. SayUncle, another weird kid name regailed me on how Clinton couldn't handle blogs if they were around when he was President. I agreed and gave him a heath bar.

The kids in this neighborhood have some really weird names.

Standing outside a kid was asking the Harriet Miers if she say some missing raped teenage girl who was taken by a rascist hurricane.

"You reporter kid, come get your candy"

He reported to me though... He talked about how Lawrence Kansas was trying to fine first time pot offenders... but not sure what to charge them. I gave the Dunvin kid a bag of doritos for his trouble.

a kid came down the lane dressed as a huge book. he had to get three or four other kids to help him walk

"Hey what are you?"

"I'm the federal budget... just give me their candy I promised i'd split it up with them"

some how I didn't believe him but he told me that Harriet Mier's withdrew from helping him and that made the President weaker so he just had to make do.

I was willing to do with that. so I gave him a Hershey Symphony Milk Chocolate bar for his troubles... and for his friends some wanted adds... I think they'll need them.

then I saw Alex Schoellkopf shambling down the way in a fine Zombie costume. "Nice Zombie Costume" I said and he told me he was one of the secret Nazi's hiding in spain. now that is pretty scary. I gave him some Mini toblerones and he went happily on his way.

he saw I was a righty then checked out my head. I'm researching grey hair's on rightys he said. I helped him out with his research ( and you should to)

Then a little Che came to my door "Oh, you're a zombie to." we both laughed... I think he got my joke. I asked him what was going on in Louisiana he told me how they planned to spend state bond money even though the state is a shambles and he regailed me with many scary spending stories. And we know this will get better as people can live out side the area and vote for the next three years so long as they super secret pinkie swear promise to move back.

I give him the twix bar for his troubles. Then I see a guy dressed up as a Prince with a slightly less fancy costume then a king. He asked me why John Bolton would make Syria answer the UN's questions or else when he probably wouldn't the US government. I slipped Tom some sweet tarts and sent him on his way.

I figured all these weird kids I should just close up for the night and ended my halloween in RINOSightings land

SCALITO thoughts....

Ok before I crack into RINO sightings I wanted to get my Scalito thoughts out there.

Politically:
It has some good elements, the biggest political fault is the President doesn't get to pick a woman. And with this I see that it was probably a woman who backed out for Miers B or C pick.

Scalito has a rags to riches life story which i think plays well.

And it makes those of us who didn't like some one we felt would be wishy washy getting to the SCOTUS. So pretty good call politically. I'd have prefered it be a Hispanic if it couldn't be a woman but thats minor

Intellectually:
I don't like the fact he is more like Scalia ( I'd prefer some one more like Thomas or Renquist) but at least some one who is more like Scalia will put the court in the right direction most of the time.

I'm much happier about this pick.

Prince Charles in a quest to truely make the royal family irrelivent has decided to lecture the US on our thoughts about Muslims

Prince Charles to plead Islam's cause to Bush
By Andrew Alderson, Chief Reporter
(Filed: 29/10/2005)

The Prince of Wales will try to persuade George W Bush and Americans of the merits of Islam this week because he thinks the United States has been too intolerant of the religion since September 11.

The Prince, who leaves on Tuesday for an eight-day tour of the US, has voiced private concerns over America's "confrontational" approach to Muslim countries and its failure to appreciate Islam's strengths.

Hmmmm so have we passed any new laws?
Have their been waves of protests at mosques?
anything that is really ya know different then how muslims have practiced the faith here in the states.

Also... lets see who these people who have called him to act in this ridiculous manner...

Mr Mahmood and other Muslims present stressed that Prince Charles did not go so far as to criticise the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001. More recently, he has been careful not to express his views on Iraq.

Yep we can't invade a country that
A) Shelters the people who attack our citizens
B) Takes money from said people.
and
C) uses those people to help defend their country

Thats the mindset of the people who think folks in this country will really care what Chucky has to say.

I could go into more depth on what he said but the words of a wise englishman to me stick

"He's proof of what happens when cousin's marry"

BDP on ABP does add some material

Quote:
Prince Charles made a speech, acclaimed throughout the Arab world, on relations between Islam and the West. He urged the West to overcome its "unthinkable prejudices" about Islam and its customs and laws.

He spoke warmly of the West's debt to the culture of Islam and distanced moderate Muslims from misguided militants. "Extremism is no more the monopoly of Islam than it is the monopoly of other religions, including Christianity," he said.

Um, excuse me your highness, but doesn't the West allow Muslims to vote in free elections - something Muslim leaders didn't even do (before we liberated Afghanistan and Iraq). Why can an Arab have citizenship in Israel, but the same Jew not be able to be a citizen in an Arab country.

He goes into more of the stupidity of Prince Charles then I feel Mr. Diana Spencer is worth

The government is working on Captain Trips

Or Super Flu if you will

Bush on Tuesday is visiting the National Institutes of Health to announce his administration's strategy on how to prepare for the next flu pandemic, whether it's caused by the bird flu in Asia or some other super strain of influenza. Federal health officials have spent the last year updating a national plan on how to do that.

Stockpiling drugs and vaccines is just one component.

Ok every so often we here folks from the government come out and say "Oh My god their is some guy in taipei and he has this flu and if he spreads it we're all going to die~!"

well lets back up and remember two important things

Not all FLUs are cured by the Flu Vacinne

so stockpiling a vaccine or drugs that may or may not work ( we don't know) is wasteful. Thats drugs and vaccine that if they aren't used quickly have a shelf life.

Already the government is buying $162.5 million worth of vaccine against that bird flu strain, called H5N1, from two companies _ Sanofi-Aventis and Chiron Corp. _ in case that happens. It also is ordering millions of doses of Tamiflu and Relenza, two antiflu drugs believed to offer some protection against the bird flu, stockpiles that the pandemic plan is expected to order be augmented.

In animal testing.....
That haven't been tested on humans to work on the bird flu....
on a strain that hasn't mutated to infect humans on a large scale.

Why don't we just put 160 million in a rat hole, at least then we wouldn't be enriching two companies for no cause.

and it would probably be just slightly less effective

But amid growing public fear about the bird flu, federal health officials are beginning to wonder about a backlash if the worrisome strain in fact fizzles out _ or is contained in birds, as specialists are struggling to do _ and never threatens Americans' health.

yep for this to cross from humans to birds you have to... HANDLE birds.

So you can target the people who do that with good preventative care.

No wasting of money, no causing a panic

But that wouldn't be "common sense" in the mind of Ted Kennedy (D-Chevas Regal)

Good for Eminem

Anyone who knows me know I tend to like some of Mr. Mather's work. Anyone who knows me/reads this blog knows I despised Live 8. It was nothing more then a giant commercial to show that celebrities -care- and to try to take credit for things world leaders were already doing.

I am very amused that these two things merge at a nice point.

Geldof says, "Bono called me while I was in Africa and said 'he's (Eminem) not calling me back. I've got these pictures of kids wearing Eminem and D-12 t-shirts and we got them sent off to Eminem's office but did we hear anything? It's sad.'

He added, "If people don't want to do anything, then it's cool, I'm ok with that, but I wouldn't mind if they got back to us."

Good for Marshall for rejecting the farce of Live 8. And while Bob Geldof may be a stand up guy in saying what he believes consistantly he -does- have a flaw i dislike.

Geldof's daughters FIFI TRIXIBELLE, TIGER LILY, PIXIE and PEACHES are relieved at their dad's decision, because an old man hosting such an event would be "embarrassing".

A) I think live 8 was embarrasing and more importantly
B) giving my daughters names of porn stars/strippers is even more embarssing

But last year teens accounted for just 24 percent of unwed births, down from 50 percent in 1970, she commented.

The increases in unmarried births have been among women in their 20s, she said, particularly those 25 to 29.

Many of the women in that age group are living with partners but still count as unmarried mothers if they haven't formally married, Ventura noted.

The 20s are the prime childbearing years, regardless of whether the mother is married or not, she said. ...
There were 1,470,152 babies born to single women in 2004, 35.7 percent of all births in the country, NCHS said. That was up from 1,415,995 a year earlier.

Lt. Governor Kaine is a real Man

A worm of a lefty blogger ( a African-American lefty blogger) took the kind of racial slur that a white republican ( Robert Byrd would be forgiven) did would have blacks in arms across this country. and the Kaine campaign did the right thing.

Steve Gilliard burped some verbal waste in response

"I guess they have a problem with black people expressing themselves in print," Gilliard said. "At no point did they bother to ask me what I thought or why I did it."

What you did was offensive to lots of people. The Kaine campaign knew they'd hang with you so they had no desire to be -with you-

Lt. Governor Kaine and his campaign on this issue did the right thing.

And once again we see how hateful leftyblogs can be

Political correctness and Dhimmitude in the land down under

This Herald Sun story as pointed out by RWN

POLICE are being advised to treat Muslim domestic violence cases differently out of respect for Islamic traditions and habits.

Yes in the world of the politically correct all animals are equal, but some are more equal then others.

Islamic Women's Welfare Council head Joumanah El Matrah called the guidelines appalling and dangerous.

"The implication is one needs to be more tolerant of violence against Muslim women but they should be entitled to the same protection," Ms El Matrah said.

"Police should not be advising other officers to follow those sorts of protocols.

"It can only lead to harm."

On Black Arabs

here is a good quote

The hajj has demonstrated since ancient times that neither Africans nor Arabs considered physical barriers or long distances as insurmountable obstacles. Large numbers of African pilgrims never returned to their native lands as far away as Senegal.

Instead, they settled throughout the Middle East, including present-day Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Palestine/Israel, Iran, Lebanon, Yemen, the Persian Gulf countries and Turkey.

Prominent Arabs of African descent include Kuwaiti Crown Prince Saad and Saudi Arabia's longtime ambassador to Washington, Prince Bandar bin Sultan. Also included are many popular musicians, such as Mohamed Abdu of Saudi Arabia, members of the Miami Kuwaiti Group and Nabil Shuail of Kuwait, and Yemeni musician Abu Rab Idriss.

In other news

Kids in Newton Mass are having a ban on Halloween. The school claims it is a ban based on parental complaints, but the NEA has a better answer for what is really going on.

Joel Packer, spokesman for the National Education Association, said the controversy is part of a contentious nationwide trend in which schools are trying to shorten or cancel holiday celebrations, either for religious reasons or to put more time into classroom work. Halloween is one of the few holidays that can fall when children are in school, he said, which puts school districts more on the spot.

Let kids have fun people. Don't play games on cramming in more school on kids because More school isn't the answer to the problems kids are having today.

Constitutional Chaos

Constitutional Chaos: or How I learned to forgive Martha Stewart

I bought this book based on the little teaser on the side of the book “What happens when the government breaks its own laws.”

This book opened my eyes and has formed how my opinion

It was on page 30, 31, and 32. In those three pages I saw torture that was authorized by an elected official. Torture that was not based on a crime with a real threat to the life of anyone, Torture that was based on expert witnesses that the court said could not be challenged in court. It was based on scientific evidence that was hardly scientific and was destroyed before the case happened. In this single case a public official over ruled her prosecutors and pushed a case for politics and a man is now in jail for 165 years.

And what happened to this woman, the one who authorized the torture? Well first Janet was appointed Attorney General and later became a candidate for Governor of the State of Florida. I am sure Janet is serving on boards and foundations and has made a small fortune. Let me show you how Janet Reno opened my eyes and made me lose all respect for public prosecutors in this country.

In 1984 Janet Reno was facing a tough race for re-election. Reno as she did previously she focused on Day-Care center sex abuse in Miami. Laurie and Jo Braga child care experts with no psychological expertise interviewed these children for up to 3 hours without stop until they “uncovered” repressed memories of abuse. On the stand just as she had before she got a judge to rule that no impeachment of the Braga’s testimony could be brought up in court.

One of the children had a test for bacteria in family of gonorrhea found in her throat, a test that was destroyed 3 days after it was destroyed by order of the prosecutors office and thus was unable to be challenged by the lab. So she could represent it as a positive test –for- gonorrhea.

These things were not sufficient to make a case so Reno ordered Mrs. Fuster held naked in Solitary confinement. She would be thrown naked, cold and wet back in her cell after her showers. The jail guards took her out dressed at night to restaurants and told her “if you want to see a restaurant you better testify”

Janet Reno paid series after series of Psychologists and therapists to try to bring out her memories. One night Naked in her dark Jail cell Janet Reno came into her sell. She told Ilena that her husband was guilty, but that she was not. This large woman visited her cell naked again and again asking her to “help her” out of the jail cell. But she held fast. Finally Reno hired a company called “Behavior Changers”” to meet with her over 34 times and to hypnotize her. Reno was there squeezing her hand much as she did during her testimony. After months of this treatment she finally broke and testified against her husband. Once she was free from her jail cell she recanted immediately.

(Note: Brown University challenges these claims. Based off of the claims made in this Brown page I am going to say that discounting the claims of torture the sheer disregard for the facts of basic justice by allowing witnesses without credentials to be unimpeachable makes my point. I am not sure now how accurate the judge is)

His book details other incidents such as the FBI failing to prosecute a murderer and allowing him to testify falsely at another trial because he “might” be a good source later on.

Prosecutors, FBI agents, and the government can lie with impunity.  The Judge recounts a story of a police officer claiming he saw a broken tail light a mile away and felt a brick that was really cocaine to justify a bogus search.

I find the story rather eye opening. As such unless a –real- crime is committed I have no support for charges such as lying to investigators or even lying to the grand jury (which FBI agents and prosecutors can do).

If a real crime happens I’d have more respect for prosecutors… but clearly they have no respect for the people

Ok.... In a nut shell (Fitzmas)

As *I* read this

Libby as the VP's chief of staff investigated who sent Joe Wilson. The bulk of the misstatements are on the fact he said he didn't know at the time he talked to reporters something he was investigating

Let me seperate these into good ( for libby) and Bad for libby

The good are all good because they happened after or during his talks to the press. Which means he could say "I was doing my investigation and i really didn't remember it"

Good:
July 8th: he asked the VP counsel's office what paperwork would be needed if the CIA sent a spouse of an agent on an assignment
July 8th a assistant to the VP told him Plame was a CIA agent.

The Bad regard the VP, a UnderSec of State, and his CIA briefer telling him.

As it looks here. About the time Joe Wilson was saying the VP sent him to africa the Vp looked into it and had Libby briefed on the subject.

The second wave of tellings occured around the time Joe Wilson made his article.
So very easily scooter Libby could have forgot (you ever forget?) that he had the earlier briefings at the time.

Now, his obstruction of justice charge comes from his not saying information which the Special Counsel already knows... so I have to think this use of the Obstruction of Justice Charge is to get Libby to flip.

Lying to the grand jury I've already said is a bogus charge. Perjury however for the same lies seems suspect.

These charges seem to be an attempt to get Libby to flip on some one else in the administration.

from the Fitzgerald PR
The charges allege that Libby lied to FBI agents who interviewed him on October 14 and
November 26, 2003; committed perjury while testifying under oath before the grand jury on March 5
and March 24, 2004; and engaged in obstruction of justice by impeding the grand jury’s investigation
2
into the unauthorized disclosure – or “leaking” – of Valerie Wilson’s affiliation with the CIA to various
reporters in the spring of 2003.

Obstruction in his mind is making a statement which he knew to be false because he investigated and FOUND it.

For this to be provable perjury escapes my concept of reason at this time.

Prior to that date, her
affiliation with the CIA was not common knowledge outside the intelligence community.

Robert Novak said he knew before he heard the story. Several other reporters have as well.
Furthermore the CIA has alleged she was probably exposed by Aimes.
and a former supervisor of hers says she hadn't done clandestine work in over 5 years.

What is shocking is how Fitzgerald puts this in his PR but he only charges him with lying about statement he found to be -untrue-

If as he seems to present this was a release of classified information it is exceptionally clear Libby released it in an illicit manner under the terms of the charges against Libby

Libby was obligated by federal criminal
statute, regulations, executive orders, and a written non-disclosure agreement not to disclose classified
information to unauthorized persons, and to properly safeguard classified information against
unauthorized disclosure.

Fitzgerald says this again, but has clear evidence ( absolute evidence) that Libby turned over this information.

So why isn't he filing charges under any of those things -if- it was a crime?
He is trying to get libby to flip on possibly bigger fish. A standard prosecutor trick.

here is the gem of the timeline

on or about June 23, 2003, Libby met with Judith Miller of The New York Times.
Libby was critical of the CIA and disparaged what he termed “selective leaking”
by the CIA concerning intelligence matters. In discussing the CIA’s handling of
Wilson’s trip to Niger, Libby informed Miller Wilson’s wife might work at a
bureau of the CIA.

Libby said the CIA was selectively leaking intelligence. Yet we do not see anyone from the CIA under investigation. and Libby said here she "Might" work at the CIA. He didn't say she did... he wasn't providing information.

on or about the morning of July 8, 2003, Libby met with Miller of The New York
Times. When the conversation turned to the subject of Joseph Wilson, Libby
asked that the information he provided on the topic of Wilson be attributed to a
“former Hill staffer” rather than to a “senior administration official,” as had been
the understanding regarding other information that Libby provided to Miller
during this meeting. Libby then discussed with Miller Wilson’s trip and
criticized the CIA reporting concerning Wilson’s trip. During this discussion,
Libby advised Miller of his belief that Wilson’s wife worked for the CIA;

CIA was leaking information
did not reveal she worked for the CIA

a real crime, and a fake crime.

on or about July 10 or July 11, 2003, Libby spoke to a senior White House
official (“Official A”) ( Karl Rove who advised Libby of a conversation Official A (Karl Rove)had earlier
that week with columnist Robert Novak in which Wilson’s wife was discussed
as a CIA employee involved in Wilson’s trip. Libby was advised by Official A
that Novak would be writing a story about Wilson’s wife;

I think with their focus on Rove this has to be him.

Here no crime was said to have occured -nor a criminal action of conspiracy discussed-

on or about July 12, 2003, in the afternoon, Libby spoke by telephone to Cooper,
who asked whether Libby had heard that Wilson’s wife was involved in sending
Wilson on the trip to Niger. Libby confirmed to Cooper, without elaboration or
qualification, that he had heard this information too; and

Still no criminal action

on or about July 12, 2003, in the late afternoon, Libby spoke by telephone with
Miller and discussed Wilson’s wife, and that she worked at the CIA.

This MAY be a crime. So his inability to charge him with this as a crime is a curiosity.

In fact, Libby well knew that he did not advise Cooper or other reporters
that he had heard other reporters were saying that Wilson’s wife worked for the CIA, nor did Libby
advise Cooper or other reporters that he did not know whether this assertion was true.

When did it become a crime to lie to reporters?

This seems to me now to be A) a fishing attempt and ( more importantly) B) a vain attempt to justify the waste of money.

As he was only able to find one incident that -may- be a crime

Fitzmas as it develops

Ok this is off of Drudge ( he doesn't have the particulars up)

Libby indicted on obstruction of justice, false statment and perjury charges...

Ok... now it seems we possibly have a real crime here...

and -IF- it turns out this is a real crime, then I am ok with Libby getting thrown in a hole in levenworth

Screw you Forbes

Dear editors of Forbes;

Go #)*(&@##*)@&@! yourselves.

Anyway, I would like to say first to the fun folks at Forbes I didn’t register to read the article where you’ve slammed my hobby.

Now Forbes Starts off this article on how bloggers are a wild lynch mob with the following section.

Please hold your irony till later.

But it turns out that scribe Nick Tracy of London was, in fact, a former stockbroker in Oregon named Timothy Miles--and Miles himself faces SEC charges that he took part in a pump-and-dumpstock scheme in 2000. He was tried in June and awaits a verdict. No matter:Circle Group stock fell below a dollar in a year of combat with Miles and the anonymous bashers on Yahoo (and after Nestlé dropped Z-Trim). Halpern's stake is down $75 million, and he blames Miles and his acolytes; he has sued for defamation. "Some of these bloggers have just one goal, and that is to do damage. It's evil," he says.

Ok... let’s take a step back here.

Stock scam in 2000
Vs
Blog post in 2004

This does not –directly- Imply he was wrong, doesn’t imply he was lying. It mearly brings up an old charge

Hmmmm defamatory conduct and slander from a news media outlet? That would never happen.

But Forbes magazine sadly –doesn’t- stop sticking the foot in the mouth there.

Often a bashing victim can't even figure out who his attacker is.

Because these sites don’t have registration (and user profiles), nor if the domain is a vanity domain are their webmasters in public record.

Oh wait… you mean a victim can’t figure out who his attacker is without doing –work-

Oh I’m sorry.

Much like the professional media has never printed false information and stood up for it.

Some companies now use blogs as a weapon, unleashing swarms of critics on their rivals. "I'd say 50% to 60% of attacks are sponsored by competitors," says Bruce Fischman, a lawyer in Miami for targets of online abuse.

I find this dubious from a traffic standpoint.

However if you own a multi-million dollar company please give me money If I abuse your competitors.

I will set up a list of companies I will gladly post negative comments on for 5 million dollars.

Oh wait… then I’d be like NBC never reporting on G.E

;-) But I’d admit I was a shill.

Thus they serve up vitriolic "content" without bearing any legal responsibility for ensuring it is fair or accurate

Do the words “absent malice” mean anything to you?

They should you are –a journalist-

A blog is no different then anyone saying anything. It’s just a different format. But you want to restrict free speech when your brethren can post something in the news that is “fake but accurate” with impunity

No wonder companies now live in fear of blogs. "A blogger can go out and make any statement about anybody, and you can't control it. That's a difficult thing,"says Steven Down, general manager of bike lock maker Kryptonite, owned by Ingersoll-Rand and based in Canton,Mass.

No wonder companies now live in fear of newspapers. "A newspaper can go out and make any statement about anybody, and you can't control it. That's a difficult thing,"says Steven Down, general manager of bike lock maker Kryptonite, owned by Ingersoll-Rand and based in Canton,Mass.

No wonder companies now live in fear of talk-radio. "A talker can go out and make any statement about anybody, and you can't control it. That's a difficult thing,"says Steven Down, general manager of bike lock maker Kryptonite, owned by Ingersoll-Rand and based in Canton,Mass.

No wonder companies now live in fear of people. "A person can go out and make any statement about anybody, and you can't control it. That's a difficult thing,"says Steven Down, general manager of bike lock maker Kryptonite, owned by Ingersoll-Rand and based in Canton,Mass.
Tell me how any of those 4 things are different. It is only different because what people once did in homes now is online, and easily accessible all over the world.

Even mighty Microsoft, for all its billions, dares not defy the blogosphere. In April gay bloggers attacked Microsoft over its failure to support a gay-rights bill in Washington State (the company is based near Seattle). "Dear Microsoft, You messed with the wrong faggots,"wrote John Aravosis, publisher of AmericaBlog, which threatened to oppose Microsoft's plans for a big campus expansion unless the company caved in. Microsoft reversed itself two weeks later, saying it supports gay-rights legislation after all. It says pressure from its own employees, not from bloggers, caused the change of heart.

Even mighty Microsoft, for all its billions, dares not defy the activits. In April gay activists attacked Microsoft over its failure to support a gay-rights bill in Washington State (the company is based near Seattle). "Dear Microsoft, You messed with the wrong faggots,"wrote John Aravosis, leader of AmericaBlog, which threatened to oppose Microsoft's plans for a big campus expansion unless the company caved in. Microsoft reversed itself two weeks later, saying it supports gay-rights legislation after all. It says pressure from its own employees, not from bloggers, caused the change of heart.

Again how is it different? In the case of the MS policy shift –though I don’t agree with John’s tone- what he did is no different at all then any gay rights group could have done.

But it wasn’t a group. It was a blogger and his readers, and their readers, and etc.

"Campaigns understand that there are some stories that regular reporters won't print. So they'll give those stories to the blogs," says Christian Grantham, a Democratic consultant in Washington who also blogs.

Because we know false stories never make it to the NYT or to CBS with the help of campaigners.

And you also notice –bloggers- ditched the girlfriend story quickly to.

When Hinderaker published an item saying left-wing bloggers should stop assaulting a White House reporter alleged to have worked as a gay prostitute, his blog brethren went on the assault, publishing his phone number at work and prompting a deluge of harassing phone calls and e-mails. "My secretary was crying" because callers kept swearing at her, he says. "Then we started getting calls at the house. My wife wanted to hire a bodyguard."

How about the gay activists who out people who were VERY forward in the gay prostitute charge

Hey guess what the Hindrocket would have gotten those same calls if a Journalist published it. And since as a prominent blogger he could very easily get shoe-horned into being a “Public figure” and thus that conduct can be deemed legal.

You can put a prom dress on a pig, but you can’t take it out.

Now back to the company who was “wronged” by a blogger. No one addressed the substance of what this blogger I never heard of said

But lets see –how- they responded to this.

Halpern had better luck, however, when he allied with Gayle Essary, who runs the FinancialWire online news service and had tangled with Miles, too. Halpern dug up details on Miles (his photo and Oregon driver's license; his links to a litany of questionable companies; his claim to be an ordained minister; his Web site that describes a mysterious crystal that contains a message from God) and fed them to Essary. Essary did 15 articles on Miles without citing Halpern as a source, and when Halpern heard from people asking about Miles' allegations against Circle Group, he referred them to FinancialWire, saying it had "exposed this guy a long time ago."

Any of those things relevant on what they were talking about

Nope… didn’t think so.

In the entire article that talks about blogs as slanderers the most important thing in the very lead of the article

“was their slander” and “was their libel”

Was never answered, no were the allegations even presented.

But I guess since Mr. Miles is a public figure he can’t sue forbes for libel

So again I say @(_#*@(#&@*(#!& U Forbes

Here are some other voices covering this soon to be blogswarm I am sure

( thanks to the brothers in the sandcrawlers for the hat tip)

Shocking news from Al-Reuters

a 50 cent movie glorfies gang violence.

No Surely not 50

50 Cent's latest CD, "Massacre," has sold 4.7 million copies in the U.S. since its chart-topping release in March and ranks as the biggest-selling album so far this year, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

anyway there was an actual outraegous part

Antonovich said the billboard outside the school for sixth through 12th graders was particularly egregious because the community had recently mounted an anti-gang campaign.

Activists in the south-central L.A. neighborhood of Hyde Park, another community plagued by gang violence, staged a rally on Tuesday calling on Paramount to remove a billboard next to a preschool. The sign was taken down the next day.

A African-American man.

Who not only lived through Gang Violence but was an active participant.

A "man" who sold drugs to children.

He now is selling a violent movie glorifying the rise from being a gangster to children.

This is what the real story.

Lets help some Virginia health officals

They are confused by spikes in syphilius.

People working minimum-wage jobs don’t have the flexibility to take off work, especially when it just seems to be a little sore that doesn’t hurt, Mason said.

Many people don’t know they’re infected. The CDC refers to syphilis as “the great imitator” because its symptoms resemble many other diseases.

here are some good warning signs of people who might get syphilus... and who shouldn't really be surprised

Some of these men are involved in relationships with women who are unaware of their partner’s bisexuality, Mason said.

This behavior causes an increase in infections among men and puts women at greater risk for contracting the disease, he said.

Mason described the case of a man who lives in Hampton.

Officials conducted a confidential interview with him to discover where his syphilis infection originated and whether other sexual partners were at risk.

The patient was a single man in his 30s who went to clubs in Washington, D.C., where holes in walls allowed men to have anonymous intercourse.

If you use glory holes and ANY symptoms occur if you don't think "Gee maybe having random unknown sex acts caused this" you are in denial

Other things that aren't focused on by the folks in Virginia

Drugs and alcohol impair judgment.

In fact I am willing to go out on a limb and say Drugs and Alcohol may often go hand in hand with use of glory holes

also a problem

Some of these men are involved in relationships with women who are unaware of their partner’s bisexuality, Mason said.

Here is a thing. If your partner is bi and you DON'T know odds are pretty good he/she has no respect for your body or life. This also may suggest a tendancy for reckless behaviors ( I.E he doesn't care about his/her own body)

so here... maybe these facts might explain why their are spikes in syphilus infections

people choosing risky sexual behaviors while drunk/stoned.

I'll be waiting for that consulting fee now

And now we know WHY Algorism broke out in Germany

We know Schroder didn't follow the example of prior german leaders and allow their successors of the other party to represent them at EU meetings. And now we know why thanks to the Medienkritik

Gerhard Schröder used his last international appearance as the German chancellor to launch one of his strongest attacks yet on Anglo-Saxon capitalism, saying the European Union faced a straightforward choice between never-ending liberalisation or the re-tention of basic European values. (...)

He told his fellow heads of state and government: "We are confronted with a fundamental conflict. Should we elevate the market and never-ending liberalisation at the heart of our political action, or do we Europeans stick to our basic beliefs?" (...)

When the voters of *HIS OWN COUNTRY* by a decent hunk put a party that was in the lead ( only slightly) of his party that advocated a more "Anglo-Saxon" styled germany he goes on -with no mandate- to attack the will of his voters.

When countrys following the "Anglo-Saxon" model are growing and parties in other nations which are advocating the "european" are declining we see now very clearly why the elites running the EU figured they would make the voters keep voting for the constitution until they voted the right way.

Market reformers are making traction in the more "european" nations and the traditionalists are running for cover.

Is it any wonder then only lame ducks come foward to speak for the European model?

-IF- the NYT is right.....

I call shennanigins on the First day of Fitzmas

In Mr. Libby's case, Mr. Fitzgerald has focused on his statements about how he first learned of Ms. Wilson's identity. Early in the investigation, Mr. Libby turned over notes of a meeting with Mr. Cheney in June 2003 that indicated the vice president had told him about Ms. Wilson, the lawyers said.

But Mr. Libby told the grand jury that he learned of Ms. Wilson from reporters, lawyers involved in the case said. Reporters who are known to have talked to Mr. Libby have said that they did not provide him the name, could not recall what had been said or had discussed unrelated subjects.

If they are trying to make that a crime i find it under my new world view a disgusting over reach of prosecutorial power. Not a political over reach just a typical one for prosecutors.

I'd also think they would need some substantial basis to file charges off of something that could be regarded as a "what the definition of is is"

IF this is indeed it

Mr. Sulu is gay

Errr ok that's surprising. The actor who played Sulu came out.

This is more news worthy I think then the female ball player coming out

Ann Althouse: John Kerry is senile

I think looking at the WashPost Article I have to agree with Ann

So the Iraqis have approved their constitution and are moving toward elections at the end of the year, and Kerry wants an international group to intervene and start hammering out some other arrangement? Isn't the constitution the political solution? I genuinely can't understand what he's talking about.

Ann it gets better. As their are ethnic turks and the turkish invasion of northern Iraq to arrest Kurdish militants their involvement in a peace deal in Iraq would be simply stupid. Not only does John Kerry's proposal show a senility that suggests the realities on the ground when he was... well running for president... it suggest a almost criminal ignorance about Iraq

Picking a fight with Wil Wheaton

I am going to do a little hating on a Blogger who is famous (and I was never a fan of).

So disclosure time:
What is even weirder is that Wil Wheaton has done an online radio show for some friends of mine.
I was also part of the hordes of many back’in’the day who hated on Wesley Crusher.
I liked some of the movies Wil starred in, and after reading Wil’s blog I’ve gained some more respect for him vs. the Star Trek producers. I also am a huge comic book geek and nerd, who plays poker whenever I have cash.

Ok now that we have our disclosure Wil like a lot of anti-war folks has decided to make the 2000 KIA mark some significant part of their motivation, I’ve not seen Wil be a ghoul about it so I can let most of that go. However Wil in exercising his whole Yellow Elephant ideology single handedly shows the Hypocrisy of his belief system

but has he listened to what he's saying? Daniel Schuberth, who should probably earn some sort of award from Operation Yellow Elephant, has the fucking nerve to criticize a brave soldier who is following orders, even though he doesn't believe in the war, when he won't enlist himself.

First of all the “Yellow Elephant” Philosophy says if you believe in a war, you need to go fight. The ideology is flawed because we actually cannot economically support a military big enough to include everyone who is willing to fight in war X, Y, or Z. But beyond that Yellow Elephantism says “You must be a soldier to make military descisions.”

So if you subscribe to that Philosophy you are saying:
Women can’t ever support a war.
Homosexuals (who are openly so) can’t ever support a war.
People who have committed a crime that disqualifies themselves from any military service.
People who never graduated High school can’t support a war.
People who are physically unable to serve can’t support a war.
People who are to old to serve can’t support a war ( more on that later).
People who have (at some time) been diagnosed with a mental illness can’t support a war…

I could spend the time to talk about fundamentally how Un-American that is. But Yellow Elephantism goes deeper.

If you support a war and have kids, in a way straight out of Leviticus your sins must be visited upon your children. Forget that your children have a choice ( and may not agree with your choice) to those who believe in Yellow Elephantism say you must sacrifice your life for the sins of your father and mother.

We could also go into the harsh reality that people who are in upper income brackets and also people who are more religious tend to be more likely to enlist to serve (proportionally) then folks who come from poorer communities and communities with less religion. Because to the Yellow Elephanters the big lie is needed that poor and underprivileged minorities must be dying for those evil bigoted Republicans thirst for war.

The realities are of course a White Southerner is (statistically) more likely to be in a front line combat unit then some one from the Upper East Side in New York. A Hispanic 2nd generation American is more likely to be on the front lines in combat then a man possibly even a neighbor of African American descent.
Also unknown to the Yellow Elephanters that if you take the top 1000 people in our federal government and compare them to a representative sample of the public at large you will find –more- people with sons, daughters, or family members under the age of 30 in the service right now.

But what is worse about Yellow Elephantism, is their hate is not just to those people who cheer for the war in words and deeds, but also for people who have the ribbons on their cars. Most of those magnets are charitable in nature and go to funds to help wounded soldiers, or the children of fallen soldiers, or the families of soldiers whose primary income earner is over seas fighting. On Filibuster Cartoons we see a comic about a similar mind set. You say you support the troops ok fine, tell me how? I am one of those people who cannot due to the physical standards of the service go into uniform but I have supported the troops. I have contributed as much as I have been able on multiple occasions to funds to help support families of our soldiers, and soldiers who are injured. I support The Shriner’s Hospitals through my dues which provides to our service men and women access to some of the top notch prosthetic medicine money can buy. So am I a Yellow Elephant because short of major surgery (and even then probably not) I am unable to serve in a war I support? Do you know ho many people are turned away? Am I a fake patriot because I, like most people who buy Livestrong-styled arm bands or a magnet with support our troops on it that went to funds that actually –contribute- to the well being of our troops and our families?

But the Yellow Elephantism of Wil Wheaton grows even more dishonest. If I oppose the war I have the right to be a soldier, or not to be a soldier. And I cannot have my patriotism questioned if I am in or out of uniform. But if I support the war I do not have the right to be a civilian. Contributing to charities that actually help soldiers and their families isn’t good enough for Wil Wheaton and other folks who cry out Yellow Elephant.

I could cast aspersions on their motivations for being anti-war. I could talk about the intellectual bankruptcy of the anti-war position. But then I’d be behaving just like Wil and some of the worst of the anti-war lot.

I’ll take satisfaction in the fact that I will expose their ideas as the odious thoughts they are. Anyone who can vote has a right to an opinion on any government policy. Anyone who has a child who is going overseas has a right to their opinion. And even people who are apathetic and jingoistic who care more about American Idol then they do what is going on in the rest of the world have the right to their opinion.

And I think it is Orwellian that the very people who scream the loudest “You cannot question our patriotism” are the ones who always question the patriotism of those they disagree with.

Schoolboard stupidity in the HBC

Ok the Worldnetdaily article doesn't tell you the WHOLE story.

Here is what they didn't tell you. Hillsbrough county just "happened" to plan professional days/teacher workdays on or around religous holiday observances. The schools idea was that it is easier to do it this way then to have a problem with massive absenteeism. Now we are getting a large number of muslim students in the area so they applied to get one of their holidays factored into the mix.

I have no problem with this.

Instead they decide to smite all religious holidays thus making it harder for parents to take their kids out of school if they are religously observant

I have a huge problem with this.

They say this won't effect the policy of protecting Kid's religous rights.... but this is Tampa

I guarentee you it will

I am loathe normally to talk about Paris Hilton

I mean, lets face it... the woman is the avatar of Skank. We've known that for some time. But it seems Paris has outdone even herself... and that takes some work

Paris Hilton had sex with her new boyfriend in a portable toilet, it has been claimed. The hotel heiress is alleged to have got hot and steamy with new lover Greek shipping tycoon Stavros Niarchos in the unlikely love den at an exclusive Hollywood party.

uuuuuuhhhhhh

I'm at a loss of words on this one

It's begining to look a lot like Fitzmas

Ok once again there is no news on the Plame-Game investigation. This lack of any news is so Important that News websites are posting "No news yet"

After reading "Constitutional Chaos" the opinions I would have had on the issue have matured a great deal. I admit I was one of those people who was pro-impeachment at the time. I now however am less happy about some of the incidents that occured during the impeachment ( and incidentally the only thing Bill did during that whole process that he was later convicted of -perjury- was never a focus of the impeachment....)

Hear is my new opinion about Fitzmas

#1) If some one clearly broke a law ( which does not seem to be the case based on all the Information avalible in the public)in releasing the name they should be prosecuted.
#2) If Lying to investigators is brought up as a charge then it should be cast out. After reading Constitutional Chaos I have lost any and all respect for that charge. Investigators can -and often do- lie to you to get you to incriminate yourself. I don
't think that should be a crime unless the lie leads to a clear loss of life ( example you lie to an investigator and instead of their finding a bomb they find nothing and the bomb kills people). Not an esoteric pseudo threat but a real concreat one.
#3) If "Criminal Conspiracy" is brought up as a charge without a actual -criminal act- attached to it ( such as leaking, or a series of perjuries that were planned out) then we should chuck what Fitz has done
#4) Perjury: Perjury is bad. Perjury is something I can accept out of the Fitzmas mess... so long as it is actual perjury not a "what the definition of IS is"

So.... if we have actual Perjury or an actual CRIME I can be happy with all this.

Prosecutors in this country some times tend to go after people when they have a blank check. I'm not going to support something like that from this point on anymore.

For those who may cry political foul I will be posting my review of Constitutional Chaos a bit later today or tommorrow. Once you see how the book has made my thoughts expand you'll see this isn't politics but a refining of my traditional loathing of government.

LGF has more ghoulish images.

Here he posts a Link to a lizoid who had photographed the necrophiliac protests. He also posts to this response.

Mother Sheehan and Michael Moore making boat-loads of money on their deaths. ( Michael Moore making it on both ends of their deaths. These people can't deal with the intellectual aspects of their position ( The tortures, the rape factors, the oppression, the murders in silence)

I feel the pictures speak for themselves. I've seen abortion protestors marching and you could see on their face the sense that they were marching to stop the deaths of unborn children. I've seen people protesting the death penalty and you could see the somber attitude they hold about death.

These people.... they look like they are having a nice dinner party.

These are the same people I am sure who march against capitalism, and whom would march to force their ideas on others.

This isn't about disent.... you can disent.... and I can find your logic and your behavior repugnant

MiersMess is over

Now that the Miers mess is over it is time to assign a good guy and a bad guy.

I thought the nomination was horrific politically, and as the days went by we saw the nomination was an abject failure on a material standard as well.

Good Guy(Girl):

Harriet Miers is the good guy in this story. Harriet took control of this situation finally that was going off a cliff. Now if she did so just because she had her back Krauthamered to the wall or not I don't know but it was very clear to her -as it was to so many of us out here in the trenches- that her nomination was bad for this president, and would be bad for the court. She finally stepped in and became the Adult in this process.

Bad Guy(s):
The White House Staff was far less kind to Harriet then she was to them. A team of Lawyers and staffers should have been working over her Senate committee questionare. They should have refined it like a laser beam to make Harriet Miers wow the critics.

They didn't

The White House Staff should have known about her many speeches which were clearly pro-life, clearly socially liberal, and clearly against the way the President sold her that very first day. Because these things attacked several of the ways the President sold her it began to make the opposition snowball.

The White House Staff should have gotten a feel from the conservative groups out there. They should have sent a trial balloon out there.

They didn't.

They White House should have within 48 hours of the first cracks forming in the Miers nomination been patching the cracks.

Miers 1.0 gave way to 2.0 and even to 3.0.... just trying to move the product.

The White House set new standards of incompetency on how they put forward this nomination. The failure lies at the feet of the staffers on this one. Pure and simple.

Now the family squabbling will go away and we'll come back togther on important issues.

I predict the White House will probably nominate a slam dunk on our side that will do very well on the dems side.

Roberts did well because he didn't present any weakness... we need to go with that example.

College Rant: I hate Crypto-marxist teachers

Class today in my religion class was really a horrific thing.

Never before have I walked out of a class in anger about what a professor is doing.

This time I got to my car, and I had my ignition turned on. I decided against it however.

Class was an annoyance before the walk out because the teacher's aid was talking about everything -BUT- Islam. When had the Teacher give a very rough introduction to Islam which was political correct new history at its finest. Then we had two problems come up. 1) We talked about the research project for the class ( and I needed the help so I accept that) and 2) we had a hurricane.

We had one day left to devote to Islam and he barely touched on it in a way that I would classify as "teaching". He then however made the comparisson that got me mad. He said that the thinking behind the terrorists of today was started by the US in WWII with the droping of the atomic bombs.

Lets set aside for a moment "Was droping the atomic bombs bad"
Lets set aside for a moment "Was droping the atomic bombs needed"

Lets review some history... In World War II their were earlier episodes of civilian reprisals on both sides of the war. Some of which (Dresden, and Tokyo) were far more lethal and far more destructive then the droping of the atomic bombs.

Ok so already the Justification is not just the US and it was not just the atomic bombs.

But lets step back

I can pick incidents going back as far as Alexander the Great ( Indeed the T.A picked incidents going back as far as the biblical israelittes) of all sorts of nations committing reprisals against civilians to change the course of the war.

What changed between those events and the droping of the Atomic bombs? The technology got more efficent at killing people.

When you have to put value to a group by negating another in my "World Perspectives" class we talked about it as the politics of "The Other" in Nationalism.

In this case he was using that Nationalist technique in a very socialist way to make the group he was speaking to, into a other.

The Hewitt Queries

Does George W. Bush deserve any loyalty from his party? From pundits identified with his party? If so, how much and why not more?

He deserves Loyalty and we've given it to him for 5 years. But you can't keep going to the well ... if you do then your just behaving like the Democrats. Bush has asked us to swallow many bitter pills. What we as Americans can't stand is something that looks incompetent... and the Miers nomination looks like that.

Do Harriett Miers' many accomplishments count for nothing?

In her life-yes- In being the best canidate for the SCOTUS seat -NO-

Does Harriett Miers strike the commentator as a dedicated public servant?

No

Why not wait for the hearings to at least begin?

Because the hearings are not the begining of the process. And to many serious issues have come out for this nomination to go any further. The longer this death of a thousand cuts happens the harder it will be for her to salvage it in the hearings.

How important is it that Roe v. Wade/Casey be reversed?

The Reversal isn't as important as -WHY- you reverse it. If you reverse it for anything but a philisophical reasoning of why the Roe precedent was wrong ( not why Abortion was/is wrong) then you'll just be more of the same.

Which five precedents does the commentator think are in most pressing need of reversal?

Raich, Kelo, the one in Nevada ( where they made the guy turn over ID), Lawrence V Texas, and I need to think of #5

Does the commentator agree with George Will's assertion of Justice Lewis Powell as the "embodiment of mainstream conservative jurisprudence?"

I think Renquist is now the mainstream of Constitutionalist Jurisprudence. I think the use of conservative on the court -is- wrong.

Is a neo-Borking underway which will discredit the conservative cause's defense of its future nominees against similar, future attacks from the left?

No, If we allow a canidate with these kind of problems to get nominated it attacks our ability to defend legitimate canidates.

What are the political consequences of a defeat of Miers at the hands of a GOP controlled Senate?

It depends on how the defeat goes down. And it depends on who is seen as most at fault. I don't think it will impact the 06 election ( the democrats are 4th and long going into the 06 election and are setting the bar high with incompetence). I think it will be the last nail in the Bill Frist campaign for 08. I think to this can be a war for evangelicals to make their bones unless Miers finds a way to bring them back ( and sorry Hugh most evangelicals aren't happy with her either)

If you have blogged about the Franken stunt....

tell me... OTHER then Stuart Smaley, when has Al Franken ever done anything in a non written format that was funny....

Some of his books are funny, and Stuart Smaley was funny more because of the ludicrousness of it ( and the fact I had at least two Stuart Smaley guidance counselors)

Ok I need to figure out how to edit my adsense

Anyone know how to do that?

pass along some technical advice if you do.

More Hildabeast agnosticism

Again Why she won't win located here

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton accused the Bush administration of squandering the balanced budgets and fiscal responsibility that she said her husband created as president.

negative point for illegal use of Bush Derangment syndrome
negative point for making herself part of the Clinton policy team when she was at the time overseas ( and against the policies that lead to said balances)

"We need a much stronger commitment to the underlying values of America," Clinton said, adding that the U.S. needs to follow the rule of law in setting its foreign policy.

-5 points for using meaningless message politics and not articulating a vision

her husband, former President Bill Clinton, was able to balance the budget while at the same time creating 22 million jobs. But
she said that fiscal responsibility
has been lost of late.

-1 point Hillary has never voted to restrain spending
-5 point for new mythology of clinton job creation
-1 point for ignoring clinton job losses in 2000

"Please tell us one thing you disagree with the president on," Clinton said to loud applause from the crowd.

-2 points for additional Bush Derangment syndrome

Al Gore Syndrome

After seeing it in John "I was in Vietnam" Kerry the disease is breaking out in Germany

Schroeder's insistence that he still represents Germany - the E.U.'s biggest member - means already low expectations for the meeting can be scaled back further.

In the end this has become an issue of ego. But the problem is when you run a parlimentary state breakdown of egos lead to break down of governments.

but here he gives another moment of chutzpah

Gearing up for the meeting, Schroeder fired a broadside at what he warned was the growing influence of both the European Commission - the bloc's executive - and the European Court.

"Nothing enrages citizens more than the suspicion of a creeping loss of sovereignty," said Schroeder in an essay published in the newspaper Die Zeit.

Kosovo Nuttiness

Wait wait wait.... The UN is now cutting up countries

Thats so sexy and unilateral.

The old Serbian government were really bad men. the US and UN stoked the fires of Serbian democrats to kick them out.

Now as a reward the country gets divided and they don't even get asked... no vote gets taken... no chance to re-evaluate soverignty and powersharing in the state.

We see here again the UN like many far-left Pink-Green-Red allies only care about their own opinion, and not that of their own "standards"

Like you, Grant went about the distasteful business of war
realistically and grimly. His courage as a commander of forces and his
powers of organization and administration made him the outstanding
Northern general. Grant, though, had no problem throwing away lives on
huge seiges of heavily defended positions. At times, Union casualties
under Grant were over double that of the Confederacy. However, Grant
was notably wise in supporting good commanders, especially Sheridan ,
William T. Sherman , and George H. Thomas. Made a full general in 1866,
he was the first U.S. citizen to hold that rank.

Kofi Covers for Bashir and more Assadinity

I've let much of the byproduct hit the fan blades before I posted about the Hariri Probe.

The Sanitized UN version makes clear some very painfully truths for the UN
Dictatorships tend to kill people who disagree with them in an organized manner. But a little White out from Kofi Helps that out.

In the Arab World no one is buying what Bashir is selling

Prominent Arab commentators have ridiculed the Syrian media campaign that has tried to discredit the report, written by chief U.N. investigator Detlev Mehlis, as politicized, unfair and unprofessional.

Others have told Syria it will end up like Libya or Iraq -- countries that have been hurt by international sanctions -- if it doesn't cooperate with the international community.

"Clever politics are not run by editorials in the (Syrian) newspapers Tishrin and Al-Baath, but should be managed by minds that understand the world and realize that the world around Syria has changed a lot," said Ahmed al-Rubei, a former Kuwaiti legislator, in a column in the London-based Asharq al-Awsat newspaper.

I've heard various commentators speak of how Saddam spent money to influence editorial boards across the Middle East to be Pro-Saddam if not apathetic towards Saddam. He even duped CNN into helping present the image he wanted. It was very dictatorial the information control.

If this Hariri issue is the start of something in Lebanon, we may be seeing the begining of a more independent Arab media. I wonder if I was a broadcaster or reporter for Al-Jazeera seeing the mass graves Saddam buried under my silence... I would have to wonder how I could make it right with god, was I responsible for that evil.

I wonder if this isn't what is at play with Syria.

and who is trying to cover for Syria why other authoritarian regimes with seats on the security council.

China, Russia and Algeria are balking at the U.S. plan for a tough, immediate response, he said.

When dictatorships and strong foriegn buisness partners can block an issue in the security council, or raise a bogus issue in the General Assembly you see the failure of the UN system. As the Leauge of Nations failed for not having powerful states have a reason to stay, and not giving weaker states power in the process we now see that powerful states are voting their pocket book -not world security- and weaker states are protecting their own from the cause of justice.

We see Syria throwing out another staged protest and we see some of the worst elements of the international system, and some trends suggesting it may be over.

I think the Assads are culpible here. I think to that the UN wouldn't stand up against them because of the problems it would cause internally.

I think though the Arab world, and perhaps the Syrian people may follow the examples of Iraq and Lebanon and put the cause of liberty to removing this evil.

Cheney and Bush on torture.

When a amendment gets more votes then a "We love puppies" resolution in the Senate and gets a White House threat of a veto I call B-S.

Well in due time the B-S comes out to smell.

Cheney's proposal is drafted in such a way that the exemption from the rule barring ill treatment could require a presidential finding that "such operations are vital to the protection of the United States or its citizens from terrorist attack." But the precise applicability of this section is not clear, and none of those involved in last week's discussions would discuss it openly yesterday.

Ok. Here we have a problem which is so typical of the Bush administration

More executive power =better

ummmm NO guys.

Arlen Specter had it right on the money when the Gonzalez hearings came up.

Ticking time bomb, a terrorist attack is going to happen ( not a chatter is picking up situation a terrorist attack IS going to happen). A guy in custody keeping silent knows where the bomb is that will kill tens of thousands of people. You have less then 24 hours to find the bomb or people will die.

Or as Mr. Furious says on the Ballon Juice post about this (edited)

Stop being such a p#$$^, John.

Do you really want to tie Jack Bauer’s hands?

In a Jack Bauer situation and under the strict supervision of a Judge I'd have less issues with allowing the government that kind of liberty.

Yes we do lose a major propeganda point, but we've already been dumping people to torture friendly regimes that are friendly to us... So I'm not sure we'd be any worse off. If we had the process strictly monitored legally we'd be better off.

and If we clearly limit it with a connection of saving American lives from a serious strike we would at least return to some degree of honestly... the CIA has privately done this for many years in the past. And I'd not be surprised if they started up the old operations in 01

We need a Jack Bauer clause, but not a open liscense

Hugh Hewitt: $h!lling more on anti-anti-miers

Hugh has had HUGE Blog street cred. It really has saddened so many of us that Hugh a man who was a intellectual bright light in our world really hasn't been in the whole Miers debate.

Worse Hugh takes a turn by saying he is Anti-Anti-Miers. When I see that from Hugh it makes me think of something Dick Morris said. It talks about how Reagan, Bush , and Hillary all see the world in black and white terms. Dick however spelled out the difference; To Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush the enemey was never other Americans.

Hugh in embracing this very tired method to defend his indefensible position has done what Morris accused Hillary of doing making others the enemey.

Hugh is in Bold, people Hugh quotes are in Italics

Question: Well into his second term, mired in scandal and obvious unending lies and deepening crisis, did any senior Democrat turn on Bill Clinton? One year into his second term, and days after a huge and historically significant election in Iraq and a month after yet another unfair savaging at the hands of the MSM over Katrina, George Bush surveys his allegedly supportive pundits and the GOP Senate majority that he made, and he finds what?"

Lets first break down some elements. Here is Hugh's first question.

did any senior Democrat turn on Bill Clinton?
No they didn't Hugh. and there is a very easy reason to explain why. The Democrats knew that being pro-impeachment would be bad with their voters back home. Thats the simple part which defeats your entire argument. But If that isn't good enough I'll do you one better.

By 1996 the Democrats had just lost for the second time they were bitter. Much as the democrats were biter in 72. When the democrats were bitter in 72 they went after Nixon. Nixon handled the situation poorly which lead to good cause to try and impeach him. But the most important issue in the Watergate scandal was "get Nixon". in 96 on as the Clinton Scandals got deeper the major motivator for the Democrats was "Get Republicans." remember Larry Flynt pulling out all the stops?

So the impeachment wasn't popular, and they wanted to get republicans so they had to stand with Clinton.

With strong grassroots efforts against Miers and against uncontroled spending and other issues going on in the Bush White House the Senators then, just as the Senators in Clinton's time are responding to the will of the voter.

Hugh's second question I find far worse. When people accuse the pro-miers side of being members of a cult of presidential personality they mean thinking just like this

and the GOP Senate majority that he made, and he finds what?

Bush didn't make that GOP Majority. People worked through the late 60s,70s,80s, and 90s to build the farm team. People worked hard to change the issues from the liberal Johnson-Rockefeller school to a positivist rock ribbed individualst school.

Bush didn't make the Senate majority, Bush just picked the fruit off the tree. Which is why Bush should have put feelers out to the folks who helped to grow that tree. Had he just took a second to listen this very situation wouldn't have happened.

Being thoughtful, being reflective, and being humble.

Jim responded this morning:
Is the Democratic Party's steadfast refusal to hold Clinton accountable for anything really the role model that the GOP wants to emulate?...

Democrats stood shoulder-to-shoulder to defend perjury, suborning perjury, and reckless, obsessive behavior that should have made Al Gore president in 1998. (To think, he probably would have won in 2000 had he run as a sitting president out from Clinton's shadow, instead of as a vice president trying to prove his alpha-maleness and leadership.)

We're not those guys. And I don't think we ought to be swayed by arguments calling for us to be more like them.

Again by his two questions saying no one defected from Clinton, and Bush made that Senate Majority Hewitt was proposing the same group-think politics that the Democratic party has lived on as its bread and butter for ages.

Jim was dead on, and Hugh again betrays his own logical system here.

I did not call for the GOP to steadfastly defend the president and his nominee against obviously meritous charges of perjury, etc. I argued that the Democratic Party's example of absurd and wrong headed loyalty of a scandal-plagued Clinton contrasted sharply with many among the GOP's immediate turn on Bush/Miers even before the hearings, Thewhen Bush deserves political support from the very people he has aided, at a minimum until the hearings begin. GOP and allied pundits cold move a long way towards party loyalty and the sort of political maturity that enduring majority coalitions need without ever coming close to the line the Democrats crossed with Clinton, and that move would serve the party and their goals in the long run.

Now lets go to the meat of what Hewitt said here.

GOP and allied pundits cold move a long way towards party loyalty and the sort of political maturity that enduring majority coalitions need without ever coming close to the line the Democrats crossed with Clinton, and that move would serve the party and their goals in the long run

In short "My party right or wrong."

Hugh in this process the committee hearing isn't the start of the machinery it is the ending of the machinery. Various groups feed to the committee what they should look into and what they shouldn't look into.

Following Hugh's position we would not advocate the best canidate possible, and in stead be forced on -just- the White House's committee sales pitch.

We'd not be talking about the legitimate ethical issues
Crooked Land sale issues in texas.
The Texas Lottery Commission mess.
Her endorsement of Racial set asides as an executive of a government agency (the Bar Assosication -is- in Texas part of the government)
The Improper use of religion
etc.

If we followed the Hewitt example none of these issues would have come out, or worse the other party would have brought them out to attack us. We then would be like them, promoting in stealth a corrupt canidate to advance our ideology.

At its core Hugh is saying nothing less then we should become the Democrats of the 1990s.

Republicans are a party of ideas. And that means we fight, we fight for our ideas because we believe those ideas make this country better.

Since the 70s the ideas have left the Democratic party and as they lost their currency of ideas they became more "my party right or wrong" and more importantly began the trend of losing elections building up to the banner elections of 1994.

The Hewitt recipie is against the grain of Reagan and against the grain Bush sold himself on.
Against being a party of ideas and principle
Against being a party of a positive agenda of freedom for the individual

It just simply isn't conservative and it isn't Republican

When we find the device we use the indefinate term....

Turns out it wasn't a Marital aid but a Toy and a Cookie that gave an IED scare in San Diego

"Essentially what they did find was a child's toy and some organic material in a bag that turned out to be a cookie," Peppin said. "Those two items combined on-screen, they very much appeared to be an IED, and it turned out not to be."

Minimum Wage employees +Federal Job Wages +Union rules= New levels of incompetence.

Airport security is useless, and ignores the core issues of a September 11-Lockerbie styled terrorist scenario.

All it serves is a way to empower the state and to dehumanize the citizen. Here is just another example

Things I learned in school today.

Between; my mother's help, the money I recieved from my part time gig with the princeton review, and the other half of my student loan money I am a bit flush with Cash (I rarely have this much money in my bank book.

It has made me appreciate how good it feels to pay bills. I always loathed paying bills, but go a bit without paying them and there is just something life afirming about paying your bills.

I ate my first "out" food since I have moved up here -a entry amount of food-. With that and the time i cobbled togther some cash for a candy bar I've learned to appreciate the pleasures in eating those things on occassion.... where prior to this I just learned the pleasure in eating them.

Since we had the Hurricane I got to experience being sleep deprived and walking like a zombie through the day working off of sugar and caffine to make my body pass through its duties.

I've also reflected on something else.

If you don't know the University of South Florida we have a pretty big Muslim community. And amongst the muslim girls I see a division of two categories.

One that dresses in what you'd call the secular standard and one that wears the hijab, the traditional head scarf.

looking at the two I am struck by something. I see Muslim girls with the Hijab wearing school spirit shirts and tee shirts that scream loudly in colors even Walt Disney on acid couldn't imagine.

The others wear tones of color that look good for them, but are clearly more ordinary.

The girls wearing the Hijab have on school pride shirts, I even saw one wearing Mardi Gras styled beads.

To this I must parase a comment. My mother told me a valuable life lesson she learned when she worked in construction. Always beware the man who brings his bible to work. This came because she worked on a job for a jewish woman who sold all manner of high end wedding products and services. On the death of her live in boyfriend of decades her "good christian friends" prayed for her. And as they prayed with her they talked her into buying a larger shop on loans, something the man she loved had pushed her not to do.

They prayed for her and told her to go hire their friend who was a contractor. She did so and this good christian man read the bible every day ( aloud) and ended up cheating the subcontractors out of hundreds of thousands of dollars ( my mother being one of them)

as the building was becoming a money pit... her good christian friends parayed for her and helped her get new loans, new loans... from them.

once that happened, they stopped praying and started attacking her credit.

you can read your bible at work or at school and be a good and true christian, but when you try to show it off... you are clearly projecting something.

This goes into why to many of us "Trust me" is a use of a 4 letter word. If I need you to tell me to trust you, you've probably done something untrustworthy.

So back to the two muslim girls. The ones in the Hijab are clearly either emulating others, or worse obeying the words of elders in their community and trying to -show- their piety.

The ones without the Hijab do as the Koran tells them, they rarely push their Islam out there but do talk about it as a proper believer should. It does impact their life and their soul.

Spending money does not give a true appreciation of money either, an absence of money gives one an appreciation for it.

The only pleasure of the soul come from struggle and then understanding.

Thats what I learned today in school

Every so often an Important book will come out

and This is one of those times.

Peter Singer who once advocating killing infants ( not aborting them) and rating the suffering of animals as equal and in some cases superior to humans gave his mother the very medical care he wanted to deny to the masses.

Michael Moore owns stock in Haliburton, Boeing, and HMOs. I wonder if anyone will ask Michael if he used his film camera's on HMOs he owned stock in. Haliburton profited off the Hussein Regime so was Michael Moore just like the french in protecting his bottom line? he outsources his production work and he Union busts ..... when it is -his- money.

Nancy Pelosi accepted an award from the UFW Union when she denies them the right to work for her vineyard. She raises money from a Hotel and Restaurant Employees Union when she shuts Unions out of her Restaurants.

Bab Streisand pays 22K to keep her lawn Green but attacks consumerism of Americans

The Clintons attack tax cuts for the rich, yet take every shelter and deduction they can.

Noam Chomsky has made money off of pentagon contracts.

Al Franken hire's a smaller percentage people of color then Bob Jones University.

Ralph Nader is also a Union buster.

Bobby Kennedy's kid fought a Wind farm and buys SUVs

and I am sure with research and time I could go on and on.

The truth is these people again and again believe this is a world of two rules. A rule for them and a rule for the rest of us. Is it any wonder that the socialism they advocate, and the rigid enviromentalism in europe has lead to a place where class is something you are born in and will likely die in. This is a form of feudalism pure and simple. the "liberalism" of old came from the class of people who worked to earn wealth. Its ideological heir in America "conservatism" is the party of the newly rich and those who seek out wealth. and the heir to the prince of old American "liberalism" is about disempowering the masses and giving power to the state.

Look at Mother Sheehan making a fortune off the death of her son and hating the current government.

These people don't care. These people are avericous and greedy. They know they can use the empathy and kindness in the hearts of most people to enrich themselves. That is why these people show the worst of humanity... the sociopathic tendancy to use others to enrich yourself.

Hat Tip: (LGF)

I could dig up the last ban on Piglet where we pointed out that the Koran doesn't ban pigs... so first I am going to point something out to any radical muslims in the audience. Evidence using basic logic.

Allah created pigs: If you are a muslim you know that because Allah created everything and pigs are well.... part of everything. So then why would Allah create something you could not look at?

why would he put such a thing in creation?

The Prophet said eating/consuming/touching a pig is bad. This is because it is an impure animal... not entirely sure i go a long with it but thats what he said.

Now then... a Piggy bank is...... NOT A PIG. And unless we have some warped plastics company out there some where it is not made of a pig.

here are two sane voices on the attempt by Britan's new Muslim overlords to ban the piggy bank

"The next thing we will be banning Christmas trees and cribs and the logical result of that process is a bland uniformity," the Dean of Blackburn, Reverend Christopher Armstrong, said.

"We should learn to celebrate our difference, not be fearful of them."

Khalid Mahmoud, the Labour MP for a Birmingham seat and one of four Muslim MPs in Britain, also criticised the piggy-bank ban.
AdvertisementAdvertisement

"We live in a multicultural society and the traditions and symbols of one community should not be obliterated just to accommodate another," Mr Mahmoud said.

Ya know I tend to not like the hippie multicultural garbage

but when all it is ... is white guilt this is what you end up with outright insanity.

Fred Phelps: Why am I not surprised

I didn't join the bloggers who posted about Fred Phelps being drowned out of his attempt to ruin the funeral of a serviceman because I really don't believe that Fred Phelps deserves any electrons.... because he is a tool. He is like a Farakhan but even the right doesn't like him

But Fred has helped to give the far end Muslim Clerics a ethical soul mate so when they burn in the lake of fire their religon's teach they will go to let me show some of the wonderful things Fred Phelps has done that I found out about today to deserve that front row seat.

Fred Phelps, who set up the controversial Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, told an undercover reporter about the attacks, which killed 52 people:

"Oh I am so thankful that happened. My only regret is that they didn't kill about million of them. England deserves that kind of punishment, as does this country (America)".

and here

Phelps made news just last month when the Daily Telegraph reported that the Swedish royal family were consulting lawyers after discovering that Phelps had made outrageous claims about their sexuality on the internet.

A man who teaches about the hatred of God..... he doesn't deserve any attention. But Fred Phelps when he cheered for the bombings in london has set himself as a new kind of wingnut ( though he could be a moonbat... it is hard to say)

Cindy Sheehan 15 minutes watch

Not content to ride off into her new life of luxury Cindy Sheehan sucks a few more seconds of fame off her sons corpse.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Cindy Sheehan, the military mother who made her son's death in Iraq a rallying point for the anti-war movement, plans to tie herself to the White House fence to protest the milestone of 2,000 U.S. military deaths in Iraq.

"I'm going to go to Washington, D.C. and I'm going to give a speech at the White House, and after I do, I'm going to tie myself to the fence and refuse to leave until they agree to bring our troops home," Sheehan said in a telephone interview last week as the milestone approached.

The fact these people plan to make a major push around death 2000 makes me ill.

Every life is important, but they choose the ones that make the President look bad.

This is almost some form of necromantic pornography

Given that our Next RINO sighting is on October 31 I am going to be asking for some additional material from y'all boys and girls

1) Your Post
2) A costume
3) a type of candy

So long as I get everything by 10pm on Sunday we are golden

Haloscan is down so here is a post reply

Haloscan is down, this sucks. However because Haloscan is down I get to have more Blogger styled fun. Dean over at Dean’s World decided to make a post based off of my book review of Condi vs. Hillary that combined with the Marist poll I saw over on ABP I decided to go into the full detailed picture of why I don’t see The Hildabeast going to the White House. I don’t even see her making it to the General Election either.

  1. Lay of the Land –Southern Edition-. The Democrats haven’t won with anyone who wasn’t a southerner. And having a southerner come out and campaign for you doesn’t help (Example: Bill Clinton went down to Arkansas to campaign for Kerry and Kerry’s support actually went DOWN). With her voting record that is Pro-ACLU, Pro-AFL-CIO, Pro-Choice, Pro-Every default Democratic Party position she can’t even make a real sell as a Southern Fried Democrat. This means the South doesn’t budge in 08 if she is nominated. We also know if she loses Georgia, Texas, and Florida that is a major hurdle in the race for the white house.

  2. Lay of the Land –Western Edition-. Same as the South she doesn’t really have any positions or support base at the moment to pull off a Maverick “I’m really conservative guys” position that you see potential 08 candidate Bill Richardson doing in New Mexico.

  3. Lay of the Land-Upper Midwest Edition-. She also doesn’t address the fights the Democrats have had in Wisconsin and Minnesota, and to a lesser extent Michigan. A “Native Son” on the ticket gives the Democrats better field position to keep those races from being competitive so they can focus on some swingable areas especially in the South and the West. The bleeding of the Upper Midwest is why places like West Virginia have started to trend republican because they’ve had the cash to put the people on the ground.

  4. Bill Clinton: Bill is a very large metaphysical issue in the life of Hillary. In the 90s Morris did some polling for Clinton that talked of how the American people didn’t like the thought of a secret puppet master in the bedroom. Unless Hillary runs hard away from Bill (which may be the only way for her to win the nomination) this psychological problem will flair up again. Hillary will likely call back much of Bill’s “Council of War” but here is the thing…. Even with Dick Morris Bill couldn’t get 50%+1. It is doubtful we’ll have a strong third party at this stage so that means she is trying to run with a team that has never “Won” a race.

  5. Bill Clinton Part II: The far left hates Bill Clinton. They had to stay on their back bench and bite their lip for 8 years of Clinton. If Hillary runs as “More of the Clinton Mojo” a strong portion of the base will be against her. Factor that in with the poor track record of Iowa with women candidates there is a strong chance Hillary will lose the first caucus of the Primary season out the box. But If Hillary chooses to Run as her own candidate we have problems. In her entire life before the Senate race Hillary has accomplished nothing. In fact the Health Care mess she did was largely a product of her staffers sitting in a back room (her commission was a sham). Add to that a John Kerryesque Senate record and she has done nothing. She can’t run on Bill and be effective, but if she runs on Bill she is all celebrity and fluff.

  6. The Clinton Scandals: The fact of the matter is while she was investigated in many of these scandals; she was investigated as an accessory not the head conspirator. If a democrat or even republican sells it that way the Clinton scandals will be a slow bleed in the 08 election. Add into that her questionable 2000 senate campaign and we have a nice pot of scandal stew.

  7. Iraq: Iraq is a problem for Hillary. As a woman if she goes too Anti-War (no matter what the conditions on the ground are) it will make her look weak on national security issues. If she isn’t running as Anti-War candidate with the war in Iraq as status quo or worse the majority of the voters in the Democratic primary will be to dove to vote for her. Her only way to be Pro-War and have it work is if things get better in Iraq. But If things get better in Iraq the Democrats de facto Anti-War pose prior to 08 will make them the weaker party. She supported the war so she has to rope in the doves, she needs to look strong on war to be viable to most Americans so she can’t be anti-war. So the Iraq situation is Lose/Lose for her.

  8. Liberation of the Middle East: by 08 we’ll probably (without a major shift to the negative) have another successful election in Iraq and probably their first round of amendments to their constitution. Lebanon will have had successful Post-Syria. A possibility of a Palestinian state existing on paper and having –relatively- free elections. Hillary hasn’t stood with the President on this issue –at all- if things go as well as the trends say they are much of the Foreign policy issues she has had the chance to work on in the Armed Services committee will be cold, and the republicans could run a “where were you” campaign. Her only way the events in the Middle East could be helpful is if everything goes absolutely wrong.

  9. No Positive Vision: Look at John Kerry and Al Gore. Neither of them sold a Positive Vision for America. If you look at Hillary to present (and she has a bit of time to turn this one around). President’s win –especially ones with parties out of power- By selling a positive vision for America. Bill played generational politics as his over reaching theme and “I’m a new Democrat”. He also sold that he could get the economy purring like a kitten. Ronnie had “It’s morning in America” and sold a call back to greatness. George W. Bush had the compassionate conservative thing. Without a positive Vision Hillary won’t win. And the track record of Democratic National campaigns since 00 has been a sign it won’t happen. And since Hillary has been part of the National campaigns she hasn’t voiced up an alternate vision… she’ll have to find it like Paul on the road to Damascus.

  10. Personality: Hillary has a very negative personality. Many writers have pointed to this. On the National campaign trail (vs. the almost de facto vote she’ll get in NY) we are likely to see that snappiness come out. Snappy personality hurt Kerry, it Hurt Gore, and it has hurt bush in the past when it came out. Hillary hasn’t shown an ability to discipline it yet so it is likely to be a problem on her campaign.

  11. On the Stump: Hillary’s voice in stump speeches is just one world apocalyptic. And by that I mean revelatory. It reveals a voice that is shrill; it reveals a voice that evokes all the stereotypes of the angry feminist. And If Hillary gets into an impassioned speech on the stump it will come out. We Americans tend to like our figureheads, and that’s what a President is… a figure head… to be presentable. If Hillary can’t effectively speak on the stump she is dead (see John Kerry). Bush in 00 and for some of 04 –could- speak effectively.

  12. Personality part II: Hillary plays a card when she is attacked of “I am the avatar of all women” that is her way to distance herself from the attacks on her actions “It’s just because I am a (strong, working, independent, etc) Woman. She hasn’t had much of a need to pull it out of the olde handbag as a Senator but now not only is she exceedingly rich, she is also exceedingly powerful. Further more this is part of Hillary’s overall negative political worldview (a Nixonian or Johnson world of enemies) which American’s haven’t had in a long time. More “Vast Right Wing Conspiracy” talk will make it harder for her to run as an effective candidate. The old stuff will be a serious problem.

  13. The Dan Rather Factor: The mainstream media did a lot to work as an unpaid arm of the Democratic Party in 04. And we can see them working hard on it for 06. If the media is blatant in covering for Hillary she might make it to the general election but it can and will backlash. And with an outsider Republican as a almost certain candidate the media will have little attack fodder.

  14. Moveon.org, ET. Al.: the grassroots of the party is far to the left of the expressed public mainstream. Hillary is already behind the 8-ball with them. But unlike Bill who had the famous Sister Souljah moment Hillary hasn’t taken one yet. And she’s had great opportunities to do so. Take Cindy Sheehan…Cindy has backed movements funded and organized by communist parties and called for people to refuse to pay taxes. The woman is clearly a nut. Hillary could attack her and say “Opposing the War is a noble cause, but embracing communists and cop killers is not.” Take Louis Farakhan and his comments about the bombing of the levees in New Orleans. Hillary could have taken a free shot at him when he was in D.C. she won’t show the general election audience a willing to stand up to the far end of her base, nor will she kiss up to a base that hates her. Political cowardice of the highest order thy name is Hillary.

  15. The Budget: Hillary has voted for every spending Increase her party has backed. Other then trying to down the bush tax cut – and what democrat hasn’t- she’s not backed a single move of fiscal restraint. She has voted for more in spending then she has in getting the money to spend. A lot of smart folks in the Democratic party want to turn the Democrats back into the party of fiscal discipline ( which is good) We see the Republican base pushing their party back to fiscal discipline ( go us). If Hillary runs against an outside D.C republican with a budget cutting/government shrinking history she loses the issue. I don’t see how she can get ahead of the issue and be viable in the Democratic primary as the primary environment is today.

  16. The Leadership thing: As Dean pointed out to me in IM Nixon and Kennedy didn’t have an impressive legislative track record. And as I pointed out to Dean they both were solid red hunter in the Senate. They took the lead on –something-. To date Hillary hasn’t gotten out in front on any issue. She hasn’t done a Ted Kennedy and made a bill happen. She hasn’t been strong pushing for say –Able Danger- investigations. She hasn’t pushed the White House on the border. Hillary has warmed a chair, pretty much that’s it.

  17. Political Geography-The Hispanic vote-: Republicans have been making huge Inroads into the Hispanic community. I think the party that puts a Hispanic at the top (Richardson) could win the whole pot in the Hispanic vote lottery. I don’t see the Mojo working for a second place Hispanic ( we all saw how well John Edwards did in North Carolina as VP).

  18. Political Geography –The Black vote-: While election 04 wasn’t a good factor on the issue, Republicans have been making huge inroads with evangelical and middle class blacks. Hillary’s husband did –nothing- of any significance for the Black community. An effective Republican candidate can focus on how Bill Clinton was more concerned about racial prejudice against –WHITE- people then African-Americans in all 8 of his years. The fact Bill was put in an African-American hall of fame in Arkansas. This could all be used effectively to turn the blacks against Hillary.

  19. Political Geography –The Jewish Question-: Bill came to Florida to reassure the Jewish voters that John Kerry would be good for Israel. And the Jewish-Democratic enclaves of south Florida had low Democrat turn out. Hillary embraced Suha Arafat. Hillary hasn’t authored one bill to support Israel. As near as I can tell she hasn’t co-sponsored. Hillary will, in playing a tight-conservative campaign to the general election will embrace the borderline Anti-Semitic left and further the shift of religious Jews to the Republican Party. This is bad news for Florida, Ohio, and many other strong Jewish-Democrat enclaves. And if Bush sees a Palestinian state by 08 the Jewish vote will be stronger in the republican camp ( provided a major betrayal doesn’t happen)

  20. Hillary is creative with the truth: We have the Sir Edmund Hillary claim (that she was named after him, utterly untrue) we also have the 9-11 claims (she claimed Chelsea was in the area when the attacks occurred.) At least when Al Gore got creative with elements of his bio (and John Kerry to) they were at least creative in the same neighborhood things actually happened in.

  21. 2004 Campaign: I don’t subscribe to the Clinton sabotage theory. But what I do subscribe to is the fact that many grassroots activists on the left would believe she and her likely 2008 team did tank the Kerry campaign. Add into that a probable Candidate John Kerry and this will be a major source of bleeding in the 2008 race on the primary and general election.

  22. Bill Clinton Part III –the foreign policy snafu’s-: Bill allowed North Korea to covertly build nukes under his watch (the carter deal was a sham), Bill had a chance to get Osama bin Laden (and given the fact this country has kidnapped criminals with less cases then Bin Laden his claims are dubious), Bill gave a pass to Russian companies building atomic facilities in Iran. Every major foreign policy issue that we will have to worry about in 08, bubba dropped the ball. Unless she runs hard against Bill this will be a liability.

  23. Bill Clinton Part IV-Angry Bill-: Notice some of the testiness when Bill in interviews lashed at the media for their role in the Clinton Scandals? He did that when his book “My Life” comes out. Now take a look at what will happen when his old scandals and the new ones from Hillary’s senate career get bought out. Hillary and Bill could both snap on an audience easily. This will deflate their image very sharply.

  24. Bush Derangement Syndrome: Right now no one is really hot to trot motivated for any democratic candidate. They are motivated to “get the republicans”. Without foot soldiers that are motivated to ELECT Hillary we will not see her win.

  25. Her far leftist past: she worked for communist lawyers, defended black panthers, and was a radical of a radical. This past is bound to have more “I didn’t Inhale” moments.

That’s just the 25 things that have come to my mind right now…..

I could easily list another 25 things that are weak points for her candidacy. She is a celebrity and we all see how well the celebrity candidacy did for John McCain.

She won’t win and is to flawed to win.

Blogger is having headaches

So we'll see how this all works out

No School tommorrow

W00T

I hope we don't have a power outage so I can enjoy it

Turn about is fair play.

Turn about is fair play.

While this dear lady has given me a pseudonym out of respect for my privacy –which isn’t needed… I am going to give her one at the moment because *I* know she has a strong call to privacy.

Any of you who have been reading my blog lately know a bit about this situation. (And a handful of you I’ve even mentioned some of the specifics about to)

So let me tell you about a song bird that has flown back into my window.

My Songbird and I formed a bond a long time ago after I swore I’d never fall for some one over the internet… I’ve sworn a lot of things and she has proven consistent in proving it wrong. She was in the arms of another but the pull in our heart was strong enough that we got ourselves into a three legged tripod.

Tripods usually are stable but this one wasn’t.

I lacked some maturity in serious ways; she lacked some maturity to but in different ways. The big problem was communication, and even bigger were issues of trust. She didn’t trust me… I was thousands of miles away… and I called to her to put her whole life and go away. I’d have ran to her but she wouldn’t have let me.

Their were lies, their was mistrust, their was pain but it ended in laughter. How she broke it off seemed comical, and some of the ways she burned the bridges seemed more comical. Everyone told me they were surprised I put up with it as long as I did.

But once again the maker seems to have his own way of doing things. We started talking again. I went to a satyr party during valentines earlier this year. Things didn’t start warming up again till her marriage entered its end stages.

My first priority is to mend our hearts… but I feel my hopes and dreams may finally be granted.

I want her heart to sing free my dear songbird…. And If she comes home to me, then It turns that I’ll be wrong again with a vow.

More Miers Problems

Forget the funky fees her firm got from the Bush Gubenatorial campaign back in 98.... I think we have a new silver bullet here

The three-member committee that determined the price included Peggy Lundy, a friend of Miers, and property-rights activist Cathie Adams, Knight Ridder reported. They were appointed to the panel by state District Judge David Evans, who had received at least $5,000 in campaign contributions from Miers' law firm.

And the fact this commisison was headed by a friend and appointed by a judge her firm gave money to is not the worst part of this story

( And she had no idea her firm gave money to the judge.... seems she doesn't know alot about this firm she ran)

This is the worst part.

According to Knight Ridder, the land _ which was part of a large Superfund pollution cleanup site _ was valued at less than 30 cents a square foot. But the panel recommended paying nearly $5 a square foot for it.

The price was later reduced from $106,915 to $80,915, but Miers has yet to return the $26,000 difference to the state, said the story by Jack Douglas Jr. and Stephen Henderson

I don't see how Bush can continue with her canidacy at this point.....

TTLB is doing a blogger poll.

so for his friendly little bot

I oppose the Miers nomination.

At first I thought she was a bad political choice, but day by day I've found new reasons to oppose her on a substantive policy basis.

Dick Morris does a Threesome with Hillary and Condi

Dick Morris does a Threesome with Hillary and Condi

As I mentioned before I ran into Dick Morris surprisingly at my Sam’s Club doing a book signing. Well I finally finished the book and as promised I am planning to lay out the wrongology Dick Morris put forward into the book. His major flaw comes from the part of this pair he knows best. He; overestimates her strengths, points out many of the flaws of her candidacy but glosses them over, misses more vital flaws, and disrespects the democrats back bench.

His sections on Rice are interesting in theory, but let’s get to some practical meat.
He also sells up the blogosphere… but lets get to what we all want to see.

The Dick Morris Hillary thesis: this thesis can be summed up by two points. Hillary can raise boatloads of money, and Hillary has the Clinton Cadre to back her up.

Let me start with the second part first. Begala, Carville, and to a lesser extent Lockhart didn’t win a presidential election for Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton won because of a divided electorate. A bland republican people lost faith in, but didn’t really have faith in him. The Clinton machine cannot win an election without a split. So Unless Hillary has a Ross Perot in cold storage some where she would have to get 50%+1 of the vote. Something the Clinton Machine never did. And while Morris and others speak of the Kerry Putsch where the Clintonistas tried to take the Kerry campaign down for a Hillary in 08 role but simply put the conspiracy doesn’t hold much water for me.

Clinton’s triangulation came through the work of Dick Morris and was largely forced on the left in the Democratic Party and they are screaming about it to this day, including many of the members of the Clinton Machine out in the field today. They would bolt when Hillary who is clearly more of their own kind tried to sell herself more like her husband. The grassroots of Moveon.org, the Daily Kos, and Democratic Underground would rally the troops against a centrist Hillary. So Hillary has to run to the left in the Democratic primary and not just leave them on the side when they get to the general election. So we have people who sold moderation but didn’t win on moderation having to sell a progressive agenda when they couldn’t win on moderation. The only way to seal the deal more is appointing Bob Shrum as campaign manager.

To deny the total truth of the first one is to deny reality. Hillary is a rock star in the Democratic Party. Bill is the last 8year long democratic president since going into FDR (Truman and LBJ both held partials). Hillary will rake in the money no question. And she can go on like President John Connolly and President John Kerry to win because she spent the most…..Oh wait neither of those men are President or were President. If you spend an obscene amount of money without a product… you get a New Coke. If you have a product then the money actually can do something. Now I am not calling Hillary a new coke, I am saying her ability to raise money is not the end all be all of her candidacy.

But what makes Dick Morris’s thesis most suspect is he keeps the message of the “Dark Side” of a Hillary candidacy and points out her flaws. A road map for any democrat running in the 08 primary and any republican in the 08 general election.
Here is a taste

  1. ACLU/AFL-CIO/Etc… You name a core part of the democratic coalition Hillary is seen as a reliable stamp. But not a leader on any of their issues. A good vote but that’s it. Compare that to John Kerry and at least she can say “I showed up”

  2. A lack of a real legislative record. She has a senate record very similar to John Kerry. But John Kerry at least did something on his own (We all remember the Vietnam stories John) but for a woman who road her own husband’s coat tails into the senate this is a fatal flaw. She has also taken her signature Issue (health care) and made no real effort to push a health care bill in the senate. Morris doesn’t see this as utterly lethal as it should be. And it’s not like he needs to look far to see how this plays out. John Kerry is a prime example.

  3. Hillary as LBJ on a good day, or Richard Nixon on a worst. Speaking of the enemies lists, the potential to view an attack on her as an attack on (fill in the woman here) Morris has outlined this before. But here is the problem in modern politics the person with the most positive vision in their campaign wins elections. Hillary’s personality makes that impossible but without the martyr factor (LBJ) or the division factor (1968) neither of these highly negative men would have made it into office. The chance of a 68 like Climate that Hillary can use (more on that later) is slim and a martyrdom is nigh impossible.

  4. Her weak position on Israel. Anecdotally in South Florida the reliable Jewish quarters didn’t turn out their large votes for Kerry. And Kerry had a semi-record on Israel. Hillary has not only none, but her embrace of the widow of Arafat easy to pull out for consumption. Bill tried to assure Jews on Kerry and it just didn’t work. Ed Koch points to the loss of Jewish voters in 1980 as one of the many factors that lead to the fall of Carter and I don’t see a Step grandfather being enough of a fig leaf for Hillary

  5. She always supports increases in spending, never has supported or gotten out in front of spending cuts.

  6. Her taking credit for Schumer’s work after 9-11

  7. The Clinton Scandals. He soft peddled all this… he soft peddles some of her miraculous investments, her consulting work that provided no work… the FBI scandals. The focus before was Bill and the media was never into it because Hillary was a wife. But in the new media climate these will be fair game.

But, these are not the only Flaws Hillary has in running for President. Another flaw she has, he lists as a plus. I didn’t list it with the other pluses because trying to even remotely address it as a plus is patently absurd. As in her entire life (especially if you believe the Previous Morris Narratives) her greatest millstone is Bill Clinton. An Irony that a woman who is such a feminist Icon has both been created by, and undone by the very man she married. In previous books Dick Morris talked intensely about the American people’s distaste for a secret advisor in the bedroom during the Clinton Administration. And they accepted Hillary as an advocate with no power. But Hillary was never president and Bill was (Unless 93-01 was a long bad dream)

Morris talks of Bill as the guarantee. He says it would work like this. “Hey if she doesn’t know it I’ll help her out.” When Morris pointed to the fact the voters in 89 rejected Hillary as a future Governor of Arkansas because they would view her as a place holder for Bill. Yet here we have Bill back in the nucleus of his former glory and power. How could the American people not react to this problem the same way the people in Arkansas did? How they did in 93-94 only this time worse because the secret power broker whispering into the ear is both a man, and a former president.

Another flaw in the campaign to make Hillary president is something Morris calls a strategy. A female candidate’s need to tack to the right on issues of security and criminal justice in a mold akin to Golda, Indra, and the Iron Lady in the UK. The problem with this thought is seen in the 2004 election campaign. When John Kerry was behind in the polls he was embracing the war. When John Kerry rejected the war he marched forward and never looked back. The high poll numbers against the war are even higher amongst the democrats. I am going to be skeptical if a democrat can win as a hawk in 08, nor do I think a Nixon or reverse Nixon (Hawk playing a dove needing to do Hawkish things or a Dove playing a hawk needing to do dovish things) will win in 08. I think the only person who can be the Democratic nominee in 2008 is a legit dove in the mold of McGovern and McCarthy. With this strategy Morris identifies as vital to a woman candidate’s victory spells Hillary out as in 2008 we will still have large numbers of troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, even if those numbers are reduced from today to the grass roots of the democratic party it will be unacceptable.

And Hillary has shown signs of trying to play a reverse Nixon with prominent fundraisers being told “I am only for the war so I can win elections.” And meeting with Cindy Sheehan along with decrying anyone who questions “our patriotism” (a question no one ever asks). But her refusal to take a playbook out of her husband’s campaign and rebuking Cindy Sheehan in a Sister Soulja moment for embracing not one but two anti-war movements founded by communist parties makes a perfect way to say “Opposing the war is fine but to some it goes into excess.” The fact she hasn’t shows she is not playing her war cards strong but playing them tight and conservative.

In the end Morris shows where this comes from when the scandal about the Draft came out and Hillary vehemently and animatedly said Bill would never say the war was good, or the protests were wrong. Hillary can’t run a Nixon or an Anti-Nixon in an honest way because unlike Bill she lacks the true ability to sell that which she does not believe.

Also as part of this strategy Hillary to “sell” her femaleness has to embrace big government… rub and get snuggly with big government. Unless Hillary starts to find a voice on cutting spending (which hasn’t happened) Hillary will be painted rightly as a “Tax and Spender.” And will go against the grain the Reagan years built in and her husband had to accept ~Americans want smaller government~

He disrespects the back bench of the Democratic Party. The question comes up where are some other Candidates that he didn’t mention.
  1. Russ Feingold: Russ is from the new south (an area where the democrats are starting to implode) the upper Midwest. He is a solid progressive but has supported Bush on key appointments saying in his own way that elections do have consequences. He is a maverick who has a reputation for doing what he feels is best for the country.

  2. Bill Richardson: Will Bill bow out to Hillary? He wasn’t a Clinton loyalist. But was a key member of the Clinton administration. He negates the republican’s push into the Hispanic areas and has shown his ability to do moderate things he might not agree with (like stopping gay marriage) and as a governor he doesn’t have to explain voting for something, before he voted against it.

  3. Bill Nelson: Popular democrat who well… has won in Florida. Something few democrats can speak of doing.

  4. Fast Eddie Rendell: Pennsylvania is a state that swings and he’s won it as a liberal. Fast Eddie has a re-election he might not win so that can kill him.

  5. Governor Warner of Virginia: Running with the one term governorship problem can be made up for because he is a democrats who can get Republicans to vote for him
As Morris says in his book, Presidential candidates have often come from the fringes of the main political stage to take the center. Hillary has name recognition but she doesn’t have foot soldiers that can fight and win for her.

Morris’s outline for how a Draft Condi movement can work is interesting. And his pointing out how the Blog-Fox News-Talk Radio Unholy trinity has changed the rules of the game is also good but his Hillary thesis; the big sales pitch doesn’t hold water. And without Hillary the Anti-Christ his motives to “Draft Condi” go by the wayside. I could point out his demographic formulas have already been challenged by other venerable men of the elections game… but this was a book of theater and I got an autographed book…I win, he wins.

But Hillary won’t win

Miers Defense from RNC.ORG

This is a Republican?

Miers' writings, ... reflected concern for the welfare of the community, the plight of the disadvantaged and the importance of professionalism. ...

but wait... we have more

Families, education, crime. Miers wrote of concerns that issues such as "hostilities among the races, abuse of alcohol and drugs, disintegration of families and neighborhoods, failing educational systems and rampant crime challenge our communities." ...

This is a judicial temperment?

The Mier's story is going from bad to worse.

Ok folks lets start from the top

(Hat tip Captin's Quarters)

American Spectator

Now word is coming out of the White House that it might not be opposed to Specter being allowed to offer his stem cell legislation as an amendment to the Labor-Health approps bill. And what does the White House get out of it? Specter's backing off from vocal criticism of SCOTUS nominee Harriet Miers.

Now I hope some of the scientific projects such as culturing fetal stem cells from living infants are why this is coming into play.....

But I am afraid to say I don't know if I can believe that anymore.

worse on the American Spectator Blog we see rumors of this being a bad kind of bribe.

Specter is not only angry about the questionaire that Miers and her handlers submitted. He is angry at the reports he is getting back from his fellow Senators coming out of their private meetings with Miers. "They are universally negative," says Republican staffer for a Senator who has met with the nominee. The bad reports are making Specter feel put upon.

This reminds me of an issue of Transmetropolitan ( a comic book) where the President was found guilty of conspiring to kill his former vice president and ordering a whole sale slaughter of innocent children. It had pictures of a White House in chaos with people trying to bail out and with a President just staring out the window in Anger. I don't see Bush ordering wholescale executions but I do seem to think these things imply the White House is that disordered.

The Wall Street Journal is coming out against the nomination Which for a big company lawyer is very shocking.

but the Campaign contribution issue is more shocking in light of the possible acts of Miers to keep Ben Barnes fat and happy on kickbacks.

Campaign records show Bush's Texas gubernatorial campaigns paid Miers a total of $163,000 in legal fees, most of it for work done during the future president's 1998 re-election bid.

Ya know guys I am all for Attorney cliient privelege as the next guy. But that is a lot of money in legal fees for a campaign.

"I'm baffled," said Randall B. Wood, a partner in the Austin firm of Ray, Wood and Bonilla, and former director of Common Cause of Texas. "I've never seen that kind of money spent on a campaign lawyer. It's unprecedented."

Indeed it is in the neighborhood of Presidential campaign attorneys fees. And if bush was spending in advance of the 2000 campaign in 98 with 98 money that just would have to be illegal.....

and worse then that... the expense is just really questionable

Former Texas Land Commissioner Garry Mauro, a Democrat who was defeated handily by Bush in the 1998 campaign, said both the amount and the timing of the payments are curious. In late September, when Miers' firm received the first of two $70,000 payments, Mauro said he trailed Bush in the polls by 35 points.

This is just really sloppy, these are things the folks in the White House should know as many of them were involved in Texas.

every day a new reason to oppose the nomination comes out.

I now have to even question her loyalty to the president because.... shouldn't a loyalist be falling on their sword by now?

This is Captain Obvious reporting

The San Fransisco Chronicle reports the woman who threw her kids into the water was Schitzophrenic really....Ya think?

Bill Clinton in a New York State of mind.

Lets talk about Bill Clinton and this nice article from the NY Daily News

In a 130-second address, Clinton mentioned Ferrer's name only once - which might have been a problem if the crowd on Charlotte St. could hear him.

Clinton's staff took speakers away and also the reporters had children sneak mics up close.

Now other then completely giving the finger to the party canidate in NYC ( which you know if NY were a real state should cost his wife in 06... but NYrs are idiots) we now see more of this "move to the center" Bill is doing for Hillary

In his speech, Clinton said "significant housing challenges" persist in the city and "there are still people who have been left behind."

They control prices in the city.... subsidized housing is a disaster and no one wants to build there.

Clinton is pitching for a guy to bring more socialism to the housing market

John McCain... WTF

From an older Kausfiles

McCain said he doesn't like to make those kinds of accusations, before adding, "We'll let other people draw those conclusions."

this was in regards to accusing people who were against his immigration bill as Rascists.

This ranks up with Laura Bush on the Sexism charge.

People need to learn to say no

and people also need to learn saying some one is a bigot is the wrong way to save a bill or a nominee

Congress Criters are stupid

I was struck by the utter stupidity evoked in this newsmax article.

WASHINGTON -- Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice declined on Wednesday to rule out American forces still being needed in Iraq a decade from now. Senators warned that the Bush administration must play it straight with the public or risk losing public support for the war.

Ok... How long did it take to "occupy" Germany and Japan to get their countries back on track.
More importantly how long did it take out troops to leave their countries....oh wait they are still there.
And South Korea.... hey Wait we are still there to.

This question truely i find insulting to the intelligence of the American people.

Go through the History of prior US occupations of areas that were -NOT- Us territories.

10 years would be on the higher end but given the problems not at all unprecidented. What is Unprecidented is our troops will be there after a stable government is formed.

A bunch of pandering to the voters.... and this is I think the President's fault to ( and I will explain my thesis later)

More Miers Mania......!

Ok... she got property liens because she didn't take care of her dying mother's property nor property she owned.

She accidentally let her right to practice before the Bar in D.C when her job was TO BE THE F******* Lawyer to the President.

and now she gets an I from the senate on her background form ( I for Incomplete)

Ok..... Here is the thing. I put myself in the "how would you make the call" frame of mind.

For me, If *I* were going to be putting forward a supreme court nominee not only would i know her record and past from stem to stern, I'd also know where the attacks would be directed.

This comment from the White House is more shocking...

A White House spokeswoman, Dana Perino, said that since Miers was nominated, she has told Specter she had "years of files to go through and she would work to finish the questionnaire as soon as possible, but she would likely have to send follow-ups to provide additional information."

Well maybe this is why you don't take the person whose JOB it is to see a Supreme Court nominee is ready to go before the committee... and appoint them. You see because then you get the B and C team doing that Job.

Worse... one of the top Woman Lawyers in Texas also let her Texas bar dues lapse ( and in Texas to be a Lawyer you HAVE to be a bar member) and blames administrative oversight. This is absurd pure and simple.

She is asking us to believe that as a top tier lawyer she not only let her Bar membership and ability to practice law happen -twice- by accident......

Well let me quote from Bill Clinton *( I think this is right)* "May daddy never had to whip me twice for the same thing."

If I were a top Lawyer who had that happen accidentally once I'd make sure my dues check was in a month early forever after that.

This nomination keeps imploding

I started to read Condi Vs. Hillary

And the first thing I have to say is that Dick Morris has had a tendancy to be really wrong from time to time. And I think his entire Hillary Thesis is dead wrong. I understand the logic behind his thesis but it is wrong so When I'm done I'll give the birds eye view of why this book is an vessel of wrongology

Wednesday, October 19, 2005

A moment of the cool

I got to meet Dick Morris today on my grocery run to Sams

Things I wish i did

1) Mention how much I liked "because he could"
2) give a come back when I said i don't think hillary will run
and of course ( most importantly)
3) got a blog interview

he is now claiming 30 years ago Hillary said she wanted to be president

it was almost 30 years ago he met her.... but he's said different in other books

More hurricanisms

Ok the storm seems to be pushing more and more south. They are also talking about a possible stall.

this is the kind of storm that is a danger

More fun with Hurricanes

The Upper two tracks look very charleyesque

I had planned to visit my mom in the event of a hurricane problem but well... It looks like it is going to be worse down by her.

I really hope whatever conditions we get in tampa aren't to bad.

Barney.. I hate Barney

Barney is suing people who are Parodying Barney AGAIN.

The San Diego Chicken beat him. So he is going after "some guy" on the Internet.

My mother's lawyer always said the profession was all about verbal mugging. Barney has proven it again

Wait....what?

From the Guardian a real "Huh" moment.

The University of California at Berkeley is being sued for running a website for school teachers called Understanding Evolution.

Anti-evolutionists claim that the site breaches the American constitution on the separation of church and state because it links to religious organisations which believe faith can be reconciled with Darwin's theory of evolution, reported the website Inside Higher Ed today.

Ok wait.. I thought that wasn't establishment

I'm all confused now guys. What do you mean?

Roy L. Caldwell, (no relation) a professor of integrative biology and director of the Museum of Paleontology at Berkeley, said the website was designed to help teachers - especially those who may feel pressure because of the current attacks on evolution - to explain the science behind evolution. The information about religious groups was strictly factual, he said.

Michael R. Smith, the assistant chancellor for legal affairs at Berkeley, said that the university would defend the lawsuit "with vigor and enthusiasm" and pointed out that the first amendment also enshrines the right to free speech.

Sparked by today's Washington Post story that suggests Vice President Cheney's office is involved in the Plame-CIA spy link investigation, government officials and advisers passed around rumors that the vice president might step aside and that President Bush would elevate Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

If this is the case The price of Tea definately picks up in DC. This changes the dynamics of 2006 and 2008 and even how the Bush Administration works.

I also think this isn't a bad Idea even if it isn't a soviet retirement

Ya Know, I learned something today

I learned that I really have poor discipline for making a good 3000 page paper. I had a good bit of grounding from the T.A in the class.

I learned something else a bit more signifigant to.... I'm not going to be able to do a religous studies minor. I would want to cause injury to myself If i had to deal witht he "scholarly" study of religion.

I think their is a flaw when your scholarly study avoids like the plauge a lot of subjectivity in the field of religion. I think there are many issues they can't study ( and how those issues impact others) without taking a walk in a more subjective mode of analysis.

I also was reminded I tend to deal with people different then most normal folks ( and I have a three end P.O.V on my T.A he was either honest on a few personal questions, outside his comfort zone, or he was hiding what he bought into out of fear of offense... for whatever reason.

But I learned what I don't want my minor to be, I learned about how to make my paper work, and I talked about religion which was fun

hmmmm.... More intresting miers stuff

I don't know Tax law much... but I say this is intresting. Not sure it disqualifiers her but it does add some intresting questions.

*) Why didn't she just outsource managment of her properties to some one when she was... ya know doing government work. This doesn't point to her basic competence.
*) If she mishandled her Mother's property... what does that say about her competence.

These are some intresting charecter issues she has.

**UPDATE**

More ummm Special things from HarriMi over at Smoking Gun

While most of the document covers her legal background, there are a few interesting tidbits, including Miers's revelation that her license to practice law in the District of Columbia had been suspended earlier this year after she failed to pay dues. "I immediately sent the dues in to remedy the delinquency. The non-payment was not intentioned, and I corrected the situation upon receiving the letter," she reported. Miers also noted that when Sandra Day O'Connor announced in July her intention to retire, "I was asked whether my name should be considered. I indicated at that time that I did not want to be considered."

Why the change? and ... ya know... as the President's lawyer it is kind of part of her job to be able to practice in D.C

Yet Harriet "accidentally" forgot it much like her property lien accidents

Oil Usage Fight in the Comments Section

I find the fight really neat but I also want to put in a sideways note here.

Coal Gasification. We can gasify coal right now and make oil cheaper then we can get it out of the saudi dirt. If the US were to make a real effort towards coal gasification ( and possibly towards making Oil shale a more realistic energy source) I'd venture good solid American money that would do more to push oil prices down then the saudi's dumping their oil reserves.

There are some reasons we aren't doing that ( people invest enough money in a system, they are less likely to ditch a system when a better alternative comes along) But this just goes to show a whole lot of things can be done to effect oil prices here in the US more then the saudi's can

The Howard Dean Perpetual Minority Project Continues

Loud Howard is working hard to destroy a political party with over 200 years of history.

Now, Many people have been very stupid and worked very hard tot ry and destroy the Democratic party over those many years but I have to say None have worked Harder then Loud Howard.

Now "The Border" is a problem that crossed party lines. We all see tons of illegal aliens ( especially in a world where terrorists could come across the border and blow us up) as a serious problem. Now George W. Bush has tacked hard left on this issue. So a smart politician would tack more to the right to pick up the slack

But Loud Howard has decided to take it another way (al-pressed)

Dean, the
Democratic National Committee chairman, claimed
President Bush "turned his back on Mexico" after it refused to support the
Iraq war.

The former Vermont governor told The Associated Press in an interview that "a strong Mexico and a strong Mexican economy fixes a lot of the problems between the two countries, particularly immigration and narcotics."

Yes when his people are upset about outsourcing, Howard Dean says "We need to Outsource even more."

When his people are upset about illegals taking good paying (formerly) Union Jobs (formerly) Loud Howard says George should have done that like he promised... you know... before Terrorists blew people up and we had some other priorities.

And to top it all off, Loud Howard says -more social welfare programs- at the last sentance of the Al-Press artifice

Dean said finding ways to reduce demand for illicit drugs in the United States would go along way toward reducing violence along the border.

The republicans will be ok in 06... Only because their is a serious almost clinical form of brain damage running things on the Democrat side

Socialism Works

A great site was made on How Socialism Works. But now I've found another Great article explaining how Socialism Works.

“Life expectancy is over 25 years longer in countries with the most economic freedom than it is those with the least.” Those who argue they support socialism or the “social market economy” because it is more humane ignore the fact that people in most free market economies live longer and healthier lives than those in most of the very regulated economic systems.

“Countries with more economic freedom have lower levels of unemployment.” As an example, we find the least economically free European countries, such as France and Germany, have much higher unemployment rates than those that are freer, such as Britain, Switzerland and Ireland.

“The amount of income going to the poorest 10 percent of the population is much greater in nations with the most economic freedom than it is in those with the least.” The socialists argue it is necessary to give up economic freedom to protect the poor, but the empirical evidence shows though redistribution can make the rich poor it cannot make the poor rich because it kills the incentives to create wealth.

Once again lets hear it for Socialism everyone.

And the Irish example is very telling as they went from one of the most Socalistic states in Europe to one of the least and now have one of the strongest economies in europe to show for it.

So Socialism really works, remember that next time we get some Us Government Socialism lite being presented by the Demoplicans and the Republicrats

The White House Rewards Christian Conservatives again

Hungary, Chile, Israel, Switzerland and Greece. These are all countries we can define as nomal on many standards. But when the most regressive system in the world comes into play (Slavery) Our State Department has added another bright light in the world....SUDAN

Not the Sudan where the slaves are primarily poor southern Christians
-yep that Sudan-
Not the Sudan where... ya know... the government ignored Genocide ( or as the UN calls it Almost Genocide but not quite Genocide)
-Yep... That Sudan-

But here is the moneyshot in the bit from Worldnetdaily

But the State Department has not made public the details of the "action plan," which, according to the TIP office, is contained within a recently signed U.S.-Sudanese "bilateral" agreement.

Sounds to me like this was a bribe to stop Civil War (A) in Sudan. A really stupid Bribe.

So really the question we have to ask is "How is the White House going to P*** off the base today?"

Scientomogy is so great because it not only makes fun of you, and you people do indeed suck and deserve to be made fun of. In short you can't bully all of us on the Internet. What's great is we also know how the church has harassment tactics as a policy. And while you say such is not the church policy we can see examples all over the place. If I actually felt like it I could do in and find many ex scientology or scientology skeptic websites that talk about the patterns of harassment and abuse by your church.

Anyone who reads my site go to the the blog of this man being assaulted by Scientologists and post happy and shiny comments in his comment section. And send him nice emails. Dean over at Dean's world pointed out one of the best secrets that are hidden in Plain Government documents

Here is the skinny

Total Imports of Petroleum
Top 15 Countries
(Thousand Barrels per Day)

Country.........YTD 2005
CANADA..........2,116
MEXICO..........1,657
SAUDI ARABIA *..1,594
VENEZUELA.......1,575
NIGERIA.........1,127
IRAQ *............534
ALGERIA *.........484
ANGOLA............432
RUSSIA............422
UNITED KINGDOM....384
VIRGIN ISLANDS....322
ECUADOR...........288
KUWAIT *..........208
COLOMBIA..........191
BRAZIL............140

Total imports: 11,474

Total Arab (Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Iraq, and Kuwait): 2,820

Percent of Arab oil: 24.6%
Percent non-Arab: 75.4%

Now Add in Venezuala and Nigeria ( I think both are still in OPEC) and that puts our opec oil consumption at
5522/11,474 (thousands of Barrels per day) of Oil coming to us from Opec

but the Islamic states are only half that total amount ( yeah yeah I know Nigeria has a large muslim region to but a large number of christians and animists who live in the area that.. has the oil)

and that import only accounts for 40% of all us Oil consumption

So in other words about 10% of the Oil we consume in the US is from the Middle East and about 20% is from OPEC

Puts the whole oil problems in perspective now don't it.

and over at The Jawa Report we see another edition of "All Animals are Equal, But Jewish Animals are less equal then others."

So lets review the wonderful logic of the Arab Leauge and the UN
Israel occupying the Gaza Strip to protect their citizens from Terrorist attacks-bad
Egypt occupying the Gaza Strip to protect their citizens from Terrorist attacks-good
Syria occupying Lebanon for reasons which aren't very clear-Bad, but not bad enough to try and do anything about (UN) Good (Arab Leauge)

Israel building a wall to defend its people from Terrorist attacks-bad, perhaps the most evil thing ever
Egypt building a fence to protect its citizens and tourists-good

The Answer: Its ok cause Muslim-Arabs say it is ok

well that's good to know

This is indeed good news, but not acceptable

This is indeed good news, but not acceptable

In the off chance some one from the White House is reading this blog (or some one can point the White House to this blog) here is some free advice to the President and his team. If not this is me doing some wish fulfillment and playing with my Ego.

This also requires a sense of humor to read.

Dear Karl Rove and Dick Cheney heads of the vast right wing conspiracy;

My Overlords, we in the ranks of your vast army of evil have a problem. It seems no one at head quarters is listening so we have rouse up and had a wee work stoppage. While you are resolving our grievance some what by no longer calling us Elitist Cynical Sexists you still have a problem and as such the work stoppage may continue into the next fiscal year.

The problem is we have worked really hard to see various projects of management to flirt with the People’s Corporation of Leftism and swallow them as a bitter pill we have not gotten sufficient pay for our work to advance the great goals of this conspiracy. Indeed many of our projects have been put on hold to advance management’s goals.

While we are very unhappy you are putting the President of the Conspiracy’s caddy in to the board of directors that is not the sole grievance we have. And tending to our other grievances from your RnD on leftism would end the strike far faster then saying the caddy would make a good board member.

....HMMMMMM......

Condi Rice coming out for Miers...Hmmmmmm Maybe some one finally woke up at the white house. Condi the "wet dream" ( fellow condi lovers out there you know it is true) of folks on the right... now see her coming out for the Miers nomination.

Some intresting POVs

Rice said she has worked closely with Miers, the current White House counsel and a former deputy chief of staff on international legal issues, on matters such as a President's wartime powers.

Intresting thought #1) She was never stressed as a deputy chief of staff before.
Intresting thought #2) the Wartime powers will be worse for her hearings if they are true. But -perhaps- all the negative conservative voices out there are a strategy to keep the democrats from focusing on it. "Why beat them up when they are doing it to themselves"

Asked whether she urged Bush to select Miers, Rice said, "I'm not in the habit of recommending Supreme Court justice nominees to the president."

I love things that don't answer questions like this

The Insults keep coming

Now I am a proud Elitist, Sexist, Cynic in the mind of Andy Card.

"I'm a little surprised that they came out of the box so cynically," White House Chief of Staff Andrew H. Card Jr. said in a C-SPAN interview made public yesterday. Card, who was central to the Miers selection, said he accepted responsibility for any mishandling. "I am glad to carry the blame," he said.

This in a Washington Post article about how the White House was going to get the message under control.

thank you Commissar for the new insult from the White House.

Pig Roasts and Angry Jewish talk radio

I was listening to some good Michael Savage the other day, I was reading “Because He Could” and I was reflecting on a wedding at the beach of a dear friend and I find myself at a nexus of three events suggestive to me of a single moment of truth.

Michael Savage was talking about the “Homosexualization” of the American male; it was his attempt to try to expand the feminization of the American male to a new end. Dick Morris talked about how Bill Clinton had lived most of his life on the dole as a government employee or as a student at Ivy League schools. And I think now as my friend Chris has achieved  a career and has married another person with a career it has made me look at the decline of birth rates in the United States and the “first world”

I know so many people who waited until their career bore fruit to get married or to have children. And I wonder if instead the course of action is to start your family before you start your career? I wonder if the moral character of struggling with a child could have made a more human corporate executive class to the needs of workers as well as the needs of preserving a company. If viewing children as a fruit, as another brass ring of achievement aren’t we starting a cycle of dehumanization with that next generation?

Think of some of the corporate greed scandals and think of people who committed them in the 80s and 90s in later life having children as some badge of courage. I think of Michael Savage as he put out his screed about the economic advantages of having no children. The jewels and luxuries you could have and then how these same people when they have kids –if they have kids- view them as an accessory. How these same career minded women view their jobs as their parents once viewed their own children.

I think to some extent there is selfishness in holding off a marriage or child till a career kicks in. I think there is wisdom to it also. But is the struggle of trying to make a marriage work in the context of the last few years of college more important then the economic prosperity? Is that sense of struggle and even some times doom a thread that can bind a new marriage together? Is holding off till you have wealth to have children also equally flawed? Do the children give you a focus and a motive, an ability to reach down into the depths of your soul to make you a good worker? Does that sense of struggle give you a vital empathy you will need as you rise through the ranks?

Is that why we now have such a corporate and political culture of mediocrity? People who have never had the suffering and pain of the soul making such choices that are short sighted and short term?

You see people who would once have had a child filling that niche with a cat or a dog… is their any amount of wealth that can make up for the difference?

-I also know that Pets are more then just things… I am speaking to the role of filling the void with an animal-

Is there more to this world then wealth, or do the socialists and closet communists really only covet wealth and luxury that they attack those of us who are capitalists for. It just reminds me of a line from Unleashed where Bob Hoskin’s character has a jewelry store owner at his knees for failing to pay a debt. He says “I’m not a pig, I’m only taking what is owed me…” Maybe that kind of value is missing from people who only value wealth and luxury over building a life.

Ok I think the 7th seal just broke

When i saw the teaser for a statement by Alan Keyes on worldnetdaily

COMING TOMORROW
No religious test
Exclusive: Alan Keyes says Bush's use of Miers' faith skirts Constitution
--WND

Wow

well Alan Keyes has now come out with the teased article

Bush's statement leaves the definite impression that Harriet Miers' religion was one of the reasons he selected her. Now, as president he is sworn to uphold, protect and defend the Constitution. The Constitution (Article VI) states that "no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

Clearly, this means that no one can be barred from office because of their religious affiliation (a point I and other conservatives have argued strenuously in the face of liberal persecution of openly religious judicial nominees). Yet if religious affiliation is cited as a basis for preference in the nominating process, doesn't this preference constitute a barrier to those without the affiliation? If so, it would be improper for this or any other president to make religious affiliation a key element in his judgment about an individual's qualifications for office. If President Bush has done so in Miers' case, her nomination is tainted by this constitutional impropriety and should be withdrawn.

Not only does this challenge "President Bush's Philosophy" with "Strict Constructionalist-originalist judicial philosophy" If this is indeed the truth.

But Alan Keyes a religous right wing nut goes even farther and earns back some of the respect he lost in that horrifically bad 2004 senate race in Illinois.

For example, given the teachings of Buddha, an individual ought to show consideration for the life and worth of every individual. If she has done so, the president may properly consider her actions as an indication that she would show due respect for the rights and dignity of each person when adjudicating cases that arise under the Constitution. Her actions, not the religious beliefs that motivate them, are the proper constitutional basis for his deliberation.

And that is it in a nut shell, the actions of some one being observant to the teachings of the buddah in those regards imply some positive things to a constitutionalist viewpoint, but only if they are followed. If beliefs form a secular philosophy.

Million Moonbat March

Tommorrow the NOI has a march.

Now the NOI believes White People are genetically engineered to be evil and murderers and that black people are of the same race as god.

So who all would support his Millions More March?

National Urban League, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the NAACP, the Congressional Black Caucus, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton,

But you have to think surely these people weren't all moonbats?

Farrakhan suggested that black Americans should not donate hurricane relief money to the American Red Cross because the organization was "too white."

"No, no one has, [expressed unease]" Farrakhan responded. "And there is a reason that they have not," he added, explaining that the liberal groups agree with him about the need to monitor relief organizations in New Orleans, whose workers lack sensitivity toward minorities, according to Farrakhan.

"The NAACP, the [National] Urban League, and a host of black leaders, met in Washington D.C. at Howard University, called by Mr. Bruce Gordon of the NAACP [and] Mr. Marc Morial of the [National] Urban League," Farrakhan continued.

"And they want FEMA to be monitored. They want the Red Cross, the United Way, all of these that have received so much from the compassion of the American people. Where will that money go?" Farrakhan asked.

ya know what, I thought -surely- Louie Louie is off his gord

but I found more examples of moonbattery in the African-American Race baiters

The chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus Friday urged his Capitol Hill colleagues to extend and strengthen the Voting Rights Act in order to "level the playing field" because, U.S. Rep. Melvin Watt said, "white people ... will not consider voting for an African American candidate."

Lets forget for a moment that Barak Obama won with like 80% of the vote.
Lets forget that Carol Mosley Braun won with more then 50% of the vote -and the population of Illinois isn't 50% black people-
lets forget the strong polling numbers Collin Powell had in the 90s when he flirted with running for President
Lets forget J.C Watts.....

Do I have to go on?

Or do black people need to show with their feet that these people don't speak for us?

Does the President still have confidence in Karl Rove

-If the leak case is put aside-

YES

why is that so freaking hard to say

Open Letter to the White House

(caveat-I never have listened to a press confrence at the white house before-)

Shut Up.

Shut Up, Shut Up, Shut Up.

Ok I am listening to Scott McClellan here and my message to the White House is they need to shut up.

They asked a question about Karl Rove and the impact of his not being in the White House during the day to day meetings. Scott babbled all about the great work the white house is doing. Shut up. the K.I.S.S principle would have made the whole thing very easy and smooth over "Karl Rove is a valuable member of the White House team, but we are a Team and any good team needs to be able to take care of the duties of one member if they are sidelined for a short period of time. And we have a very good team here at the white house." No irrelevant garbage, No promoting stuff that sounds intellectually ignorant just a simple message. Karl Rove is important, but the buisness goes on. going into a list of the buisness that goes on implies weakness and sends the wrong message.

On the Harriet Miers question he was asked about Erroding support, but Scott countered with "what erroding support." and then talked about all the people who do support Harriet Miers. At the end of this painfully sad attempt at a message the answer he should have given was at the end ( as rephrased by me) "The process is moving forward and we are still very early in the process. As the Judiciary Committee gathers its information I assure you that more and more details will come out that will solidfy support for Harriet Miers to become an excellent Strict Constructionist Jurist."

Their is no one crafting a -good- message. The campaign did have some good messages put forward but clearly no one is crafting the message now that they have the job.

So PLEASE

SHUT UP

and Keep It Simple Stupid

Some people in Syria forgot to read the memo

DAMASCUS, Syria, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk Sharaa erred twice in his eulogy of Interior Minister Ghazi Kanaan calling the suicide an "assassination," said an-Nahar.

The public attorney who superintended an autopsy made the same mistake during a televised news conference.

MMMm love that propeganda

If you read (this) article with your breakfast out in san diego you'd think that Illegals really don't use a lot of emergancy services.

But let me break this down for you.

Researchers at Mexico's National Population Council and the University of California

Lets look at Bias
Universities tend to have a liberal political bias
-IF- you buy into the theory that Mexico has something to gain by people being shunted across the border their government has a reason to twist the results.

that only 9.8 percent of Mexican adult migrants living in the United States 10 years or less visited an emergency room in the past year.

First problem
Not all migrants are illegal aliens.
Second problem
Not all illegal aliens have been illegal for less then 10 years. Some have been illegal for much more. I don't know how representative then only those who have been here ten years or less is to the total population

Among Mexican immigrants living in the United States more than 10 years, 13.7 percent visited an emergency room in the previous year

Here we see the sample change -again-. When you change the sample definitions around you get a different answer. And since we go from migrants under ten and immigrants over ten it seems to suggest illegals were not the only migrants studied.

The study draws on data from the U.S. Census, U.S. National Health Survey and Mexican government to compare health care access in the United States between new arrivals from Mexico, long-staying Mexican immigrants and native born.

Here again it suggested the study used -all- immigrants from mexico, not illegal immigrants. And since the census health survey and mexican government data is well... government data the sample will be heavily titled to legal immigrants

The report found migrants arrive in relatively good health. Only 6.8 percent considered themselves in fair or poor health, much lower than other groups. Only 2.6 percent were diagnosed with diabetes, also much lower than other groups.

problem #1 here we are relying on self identifiers
problem #2 some cultural groups will claim being healthful when they obviously are not.

At this point it interviews "former migrants" but it doesn't say if they were illegal or not.

I love how the media loves its propegandatstic science

The Egyptian occupation of PLO-Gaza now makes sense

hat tip (Dry bones blog)

from Egyptian person's blog a translation of ( I think) Egyptian news

The Minister of Interior (who is so busy waging a war on the opposition in the streets of Egypt) must protect Sinai from illegal trespassers. And the Minister of Defense, who is busy conducting war games in the northern coast, needs to have his border guards to aggressively and immediately defend the border.

Yes it seems the recent terrorists in the Sini have fled to gaza

now things are begining to take shape

Lets play a game

The game works like this type in (your name) needs into google

and pick out some choice needs

(such as this)

Larry Needs the money ( I do)
Larry needs a beating delivered unto him by his manager. ( glad I don't have a manager right now)
Larry needs a spell checker ( I do)
"Larry needs to pay for the therapies, the rehabilitation, the additional specialists and the defibrillator/pacemaker maintenance costs himself as they fall outside the seemingly arbitrary limitations of his insurance policy," (darned heart condition)
Larry needs to get on this show, the only problem being that the show host is
not exactly impressed with Larry at first ( darned host keeping me down)

Lets pray for the Iraqi people

A long time ago in a North America far far away many people were unhappy with a constitution. A great compromise was passed which helped smooth the constitution over and create the bill of rights. The constitution had many clauses which conflicted and no one gave it a long life.

It is looking at that event long in our past and seeing what is happening in Iraq I am glad to see history to some degree repeating itself.

I'm not a fan of elements of the constitution they have... And I am sure I'd have hated the 3/5ths compromise.

I think the Iraqi's are struggling, but in this age of 24 hour news it takes looking back 200 years ago to put it all in perspective.

Lets pray for the Iraqi people and their new elections.

Score one for the good guys

A online friend, in the "Online is a small world" category had a little problem with BATF.

ABP says this is Rushdie on Christians

But to me it says "lovers of God" so I think this is Rushdie on all militant religonists

"I'VE been worrying about God a little bit lately. It seems as if he's been lashing out, you know, destroying cities, annihilating places. It seems like he's been in a bad mood. And I think it has to do with the quality of lovers he's been getting. If you look at the people who love God now, you know, if I was God, I'd need to destroy something" — Salman Rushdie

DUH news of the day

Some inflation has happened folks (c: Washpost)

yes prices have went up on all goods ( I know you all are shocked)

and here is the money quote.

The CPI increase primarily reflected soaring energy costs, which rose 12 percent last month, the largest monthly increase since the department started collecting data in 1957. Energy costs rose 35 percent in the 12 months that ended in September.

After excluding food and energy prices, so-called core prices rose 0.1 percent for the month and 2 percent over the past year.

Yes folks the energy prices which rose based on projections of damage ( which never happened) and on supply restrictions ( which never happened due to EPA waivers)

D.C. government employees reward themselves

By Jim McElhatton
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
October 13, 2005

The D.C. government employees tasked with providing care to the city's poor have taken home nearly half of the more than $1 million in bonus money awarded by the District during the first half of fiscal 2005.
Nearly 400 employees in the D.C. Department of Human Services (DHS) received approximately $479,000 in extra money in their paychecks from Oct. 1, 2004, to March 31, 2005, according to D.C. Office of Personnel records.
Citywide, the D.C. government awarded 565 bonus payments for $1.06 million.
D.C. City Council member Adrian M. Fenty, chairman of the council's Committee on Human Services, which oversees the Department of Human Services, yesterday said he's going to conduct an inquiry of the department's bonuses.
"The Department of Human Services is not one of our better-running agencies right now," said Mr. Fenty, Ward 4 Democrat and mayoral candidate. "We're going to do a full scrubbing of this."
Officials from the department yesterday said they were unable to respond to inquiries seeking comment for this story by deadline.
During the past year, however, department officials have noted several improvements, including a reduction in teen-pregnancy rates and a recent award from the federal government for management of the city's food-stamp program.
But the department also has been criticized for the closure last year of a homeless shelter in Southwest. And a D.C. Auditor report in September 2004 sharply criticized the department's management of subsidized child-care programs.
The report said a lack of oversight "fostered wasteful use of District and federal funds."
Bonuses for 389 Human Services workers averaged about $1,200 each. By contrast, other agencies spent far less within their departments, yet often gave more generous individual bonuses to a handful of government executives.
The Office of the Chief Technology Officer, for example, distributed $71,757.70 to nine employees. Six received more than $8,000 each, including Robert Legrande, deputy chief technology officer. His $12,000 bonus ranked second-highest among all incentive awards.
Each of the top bonus recipients earned a salary of more than $120,000 per year.
The top bonus in the city went to an employee who no longer works for the District. Eric Price, former deputy for Planning and Economic Development, received a $13,239 bonus before his resignation in January 2005.
Only one other employee received a bonus topping $10,000. Stephen Green, director of development for the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, who helped broker the District's baseball stadium deal, received a bonus of $10,332.
The Human Services employees receiving bonuses were largely mid- or lower-level employees, including social-service representatives, program analysts and clerical assistants.
Randi Blank, spokeswoman for the Office of Personnel, said it's up to each agency when to propose incentive awards for their employees. She said that decision depends on budget availability.
"Some agencies wait until the fourth quarter, and others do it earlier," Miss Blank said. "DHS is one of our larger agencies, with more than 1,500 employees."
Miss Blank also said city officials "make sure that the recommendation forms submitted are complete and the award is properly justified."
Since 2001, the District has given more than $5 million in bonuses.
City employees can receive incentive awards for "a suggestion, an invention, a superior accomplishment, length of service or other meritorious effort," according to the personnel manual.
According to city rules, incentive awards cannot exceed $5,000 or 10 percent of an employee's annual salary. Any government employee can receive cash rewards -- except the mayor, council members, members of certain boards and commissions, and courts and school employees.
Two other employees in the Office of the Chief Technology Officer have ranked among the top bonus recipients in the District so far in 2005.
Veronica Lipscombe, director of technical services for the Office of the Chief Technology Officer, received $9,449. And Christina Fleps, attorney for the agency, received $9,712.
A top bonus recipient in another department was Robin Yeldell, director of operations for the Office of Cable Television and Telecommunications, $8,697.

Wow new MiersMania ( D'oh Update)

UPDATE

it SEEMS this is a spoofed and Parodied AP story

and I fell for it

Hat tip (In the Agora)
I said I wouldn't put out another Mier's post until something new came out.

And it turns out an important White House advisor has doubts about the Miers nomination...

that advisor is Harriet Miers

"To tell you the truth, I really don't know how I got this," Miers told
reporters in the White House. "I mean, out of all the lawyers in the
country, what makes me qualified to make constitutional decisions?"

When pressed to explain what she meant by the comments, a reluctant,
confused Miers continued, "Look, okay, I've been a lawyer for thirty years.
I was really popular in Dallas, and I did some work on the Texas Lottery.
But how many cases of constitutionality have I judged? Zero."

"Would you pick me to be a Supreme Court justice?" she added.

Yet you took the job.

What the Hizezll is wrong with you woman~? If you don't think you are qualified to make constitutional rulings then WHY did you say "I accept Mr. President."

The ACLU makes my head hurt.... A LOT

Thanks to the folks over at stop the aclu

The Fourth Amendment, Johnston said, protects against unreasonable searches. Yet when he went to the stadium, a security guard patted him down -- without cause, in Johnston's view.

Johnston, with help from the American Civil Liberties Union, filed a lawsuit Thursday seeking an injunction to end pat-downs at Raymond James Stadium.

Ok. Is patting down a search as the 4th amendment refers to.

I always thought the 4th amendment was about searching for evidence of criminality of one form or another.

What I'd love to do is have the Tampa Sports Authority say they aren't a government entity... because in all honesty It is more like something the state gives to wealthy people ( team owners)

But... their is a flaw in the NFL's Logic

"We understand that the Fourth Amendment protects individuals against unreasonable search and seizure," said Milt Ahlerich, the NFL's vice president of security. "This is not unreasonable."

He said the searches are to protect against one thing: suicide bombers wearing vest-type devices. He said pat-downs would catch bombers and deter would-be bombers.

He is correct it is not Unreasonable. However a Pat-Down and a line of people going in to be patted down doesn't deter bombers... it helps them. It gives them tons more targets.

All these people.. you know... in a line

So this isn't an unreasonable search... It is clearly a stupid one.

here is another sign the search was stupid

Johnston, an ordained Baptist minister who teaches government and history at Tampa Bay Tech, said he arrived at the first home game knowing the searches had been approved.

He said he lifted his shirt so the security guard could see that he was unarmed. The guard told him to put down his shirt. Johnston said he told the guard he did not consent to the pat-down, but the guard patted him anyway.

Clearly he was showing that he wasn't wearing a bomber belt. But much like airport security groping 90 year old women procedures had to be followed.

So once again the ACLU makes this world a little worse to live in... and once again the cult of mindless saftey makes this world a little worse to live in

It came from the email box ( big government works)

Just think of this next time some one wants some big government

Report: AIDS funds wrongly diverted;
Florida social service administrators took $200,000 from an AIDS program to pay the bills of a Broward child with autism, a state report said. Favoritism may have been a factor.; HERALD WATCHDOG

BY CAROL MARBIN MILLER; cmarbin@herald.com

Faced with a long waiting list and short on dollars to meet the needs of disabled Floridians, state administrators ''went shopping'' for the money elsewhere, an inspector general's report says.

Apparently, those with AIDS paid the price.

In 1999, the politically connected parent of a disabled Broward County youngster threatened to sue state social service officials who refused to pay for the youngster's care. The report, by the Agency for Health Care Administration's inspector general, says that state authorities diverted about $200,000 in federal AIDS dollars to pay for the child's care.

The report raises several concerns. Among them: whether state social service administrators routinely pilfer money from one pot to cover shortfalls in another, and whether they play favorites when deciding whom to serve among a 15,000-name waiting list of disabled Floridians in need of care.

To Florida AIDS advocates, the conclusions of the 200-page report confirm their long-standing fears that people with AIDS suffer particular neglect in a state known for its meager spending on social services.

''It is completely immoral and unethical to take money away from people with AIDS,'' said Sheri Kaplan, executive director of the Center for Positive Connections, an HIV and AIDS resource and support center in North Miami.

So who approved the diversion of funds?

According to the report, at least two high-ranking state administrators told investigators that former AHCA Medicaid Bureau Chief Shelly Brantley -- and perhaps others in the agency -- approved the funding. One of the administrators told investigators that when he questioned Brantley about the propriety of the diversion, she responded: ''Find a way to pay it. Do what you're told to do.''

Brantley, now director of Florida's Agency for Persons with Disabilities, declined to comment for this story.

Lindsay Hodges, a spokeswoman for Brantley in Tallahassee, declined to discuss the report in detail, saying Brantley had not read the report, and was not interviewed as a part of the investigation. Hodges said, in an e-mail, the Broward family's settlement with the state ''was resolved prior to [Brantley's] employment with AHCA.''

Yet two high-ranking administrators told inspector general investigators that Brantley was involved in the decision to divert the money. It was not clear from the report what role Brantley had at the agency at the time, and her spokeswoman could not furnish a copy of Brantley's resume to The Herald on Tuesday.

At the center of the April inspector general's report is a Broward County couple described by agency administrators as politically connected. When the couple threatened to sue the state over the costs of their child's care, officials diverted about $40,000 per year -- or more than $200,000 since 1999 -- from a program for people with AIDS to pay for expensive therapies for the child, who suffers from autism.

The investigation began in August 2004, when an AHCA program analyst, Colm McAindriu, filed a formal complaint with the agency's inspector general a few weeks after he retired. In his complaint, McAindriu alleged several ''violations of state and federal laws'' by his former bosses, including the misspending of hundreds of thousands of AIDS dollars.

'ALTERNATIVE FUNDING'

The inspector general's report confirmed McAindriu's claim that high-ranking administrators of the healthcare agency approved the use of AIDS money to pay for the Broward youngster's behavioral care. The report recommended the agency ''consider an alternative funding source'' for the child's therapies.

Jonathan Burns, a spokesman for AHCA, which regulates healthcare providers in Florida, declined to specify whether the child's therapies still are being financed by the AIDS program, citing federal privacy laws.

The state rules that govern the Project AIDS Care program say only those diagnosed with AIDS are eligible for services.

UPSET OVER DIVERSION

McAindriu, a seven-year employee of the healthcare agency, told investigators the diversion of funds bothered him because he has a 30-year-old cousin with AIDS.

''I don't know if I'm ever going to see her before she dies,'' he said. ''To my knowledge there is no cure for this thing. . . . There are a lot of people like my cousin who need as much help as they can get.''

McAindriu told investigators he asked other AHCA administrators, including the supervisor of the AIDS program, whom he did not name, whether officials commonly robbed Peter to pay Paul. 'And [the] frequent comment was, 'We do lots of things like that,' '' he said, according to the report.

The mother of the Broward child, who is not being named to protect the family's privacy, declined to discuss the report.

SOME LEFT AGENCY

Brandi Brown, an AHCA spokeswoman, said in an e-mail that few, if any, of the employees involved in the case were still working with the healthcare agency, and so ''disciplinary actions have not been taken.''

Burns said the agency would not reimburse the Project AIDS Care program for the money removed to pay for the child's treatments since 1999.

Like Floridians with AIDS, the families of disabled people also have struggled to obtain state aid. Martha Creel, who worked in AHCA's Medicaid office in the early 2000s, told investigators her agency succumbed to ''political pressure'' in the Broward family's case.

''Usually, people are told, 'I'm sorry, we can't help you. Get on the waiting list with everybody else,'' Creel, who is now director of a community program for disabled people at the state Department of Elder Affairs, told investigators.

EARLIER REPORT

It's not the first time the issue has been raised. A 2004 report by the Department of Children & Families' inspector general concluded that the family of a disabled Tampa Bay child ''received special consideration'' from the state following phone calls from the aide of a powerful lawmaker.

The 2004 report quoted a doctor who worked for DCF's developmental disabilities office as stating ''that politics play a part in the daily operations'' of the program.

UNEVEN FIELD?

State Rep. Susan K. Goldstein, a Sunrise Republican who has championed the cause of disabled children, said parents have expressed concerns that the playing field is not even.

''People really, truly believe it's who you know,'' Goldstein said.

Officials interviewed by the inspector general said one of the Broward child's parents was friendly with a Broward County commissioner, who was not named, and a former state Cabinet official.

Karen Alday-Henderson, a program analyst with AHCA, told inspector general investigators: ''I believe that [the parent's] political clout has something to do with how this happened.''

AN ADOPTED CHILD

The Broward couple, now divorced, adopted the youngster in the 1990s from the Department of Children & Families' foster care program.

In the spring of 1999, DCF's adoption program announced it would refuse to continue paying for the child's care, including costly ''intensive behavioral treatments,'' beginning that June. The therapy was intended to combat the effects of autism, an often debilitating neurological disorder that can leave children extremely difficult to manage.

Desperate for help, the family appealed DCF's rejections and threatened to sue the state. The family also threatened to give the child back to the state, Creel told the inspector general investigators.

1999 AGREEMENT

What resulted was a settlement agreement in 1999 between the family and AHCA, which agreed to pay about $40,000 per year for the child's care.

But DCF, which administered Florida's disabilities program until lawmakers created a separate state disabilities program, called the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, last year, insisted it did not have the money to pay for the treatments.

Alday-Henderson, the AHCA program analyst, testified she thought the decision to pay for the youngster's treatments with AIDS dollars originated with Brantley and Nicola ''Nicky'' Moulton, who was a Medicaid program administrator until she left the agency in late 2000, the inspector general's report said.

NOT ENOUGH FUNDS

Alday-Henderson said the state's developmental disabilities program lacked ''adequate funds'' to pay for the child's treatment, so officials ''went shopping'' among other state programs to come up with the money.

McAindriu told investigators that in about 2002 or 2003 he asked Brantley -- AHCA's second-highest ranking Medicaid official as bureau chief -- whether it was right for the state to use AIDS money to pay for the child's therapies.

''Find a way to pay it. Do what you're told to do,'' he quoted Brantley as replying, according to the report.

Creel described to investigators a similar conversation with Brantley: ''I was told that this had been set up to happen; it was set up above her and that I would just let it go.''

Remember fight club

And think of the formula

In affected vehicles, dashboard warning lights may come on and the gasoline engine shuts down. The vehicle's electric motor will continue operating in a limited capacity, so drivers can steer to the side of the road. The gasoline engine may start working again if the driver restarts the vehicle.

Since this is a recall on 75,000 cars that means this has to be an expensive lawsuit

Am I the only one who saw this on Drudge....

and thought "AFLAC~!"

Mother Sheehan and The Passion

Mother Sheehan shows us more proof that The Passion of the Christ leads to mental illness ( hat tip Decision 08)

On Ash Wednesday of 2004, a few days before Casey left for Iraq, his dad and I went to see The Passion of the Christ. That was our Ash Wednesday penance that year. Casey's dad fell asleep during the scourging scene while I sat in my seat and quietly sobbed. I was especially touched by the character that played Jesus' mom who followed her son along while he was being violently tortured and killed by devious men with an evil agenda. Of course, since I became a mom over 26 years ago, I have identified with Mary as she sobbed at the foot of her sons cross and cradled his lifeless body in her arms.

This woman keeps showing us more and more examples of her deranged state of mind at this point in time. It is in her desire to try to tie herself into a big "right-wing" cultural event to further whore herself and her cause, which she will now be making money hand over fist for shows just how deep this woman's illness is.

She is using her son to make up to 30,000 a speech. She is comparing herself to the virgin mary so she can offend people and draw us all in. The woman has no shame and no soul, I know this because she will get rich off her sons death. Anyone who can use the rightful grief of a mother to become rich will do anything.

I highly recomend Unleashed ( the unrated version)

I'll be posting a review of it a little later

You're Gay mommy

First we see sterling lesbian Rosie ODonnell telling her partner she can't breast feed and have a unique bond with her child (I know the site is a christian lifestyle one, but they aren't throwing the quote out of context) We now have this from the wonderfully progressive folks in sweden.

Yes the sperm bank industry ( which the folks in Indiana recently tried to cut off to Lesbians) in sweden is now a roll of the dice. If your sperm is used you can be sued.

Just like with Rosie this is an act of selfishness on behalf of the suing person forcing a man who probably had no means at the time -or worse was doing them a favor- now owes them money.

I am sure just like in Florida he probably has no rights to the child either but still has to pay.

It is stuff like this which makes me distrustful of the gay rights movement. I want to be all hippie and full of tolerance, but then I see garbage like this. I want to support it then a judge who has worked on gqay rights cases for years and who argued how to make gay marriage legal through the courts casts the deciding vote and pushes gay marriage on us all.

Stuff like this makes me look closer at the christian right in this country and wonder about their positioning.

It also makes me wonder about the political left in this country who look at sweden as a way to go... makes me wonder just what they have in mind for us.

The Euro hits the skids

Newsmax has the skinny but what it comes down to was the same reason the Euro surged and the dollar tanked.

Money.... People made more money by switching from dollars to Euros

Why has it tanked on the other side of the atlantic?

also money... US intrest rates make the Dollar more appealing then the EURO which represents a -gasp- stagnant economy.

Hopefully the "EU as the new world hegemon" thinkers will shut up.

But sadly they won't

Palestinian Nationalism

We all know the Palestinians had such high hopes for Nationalism that they were fighting for it even before the Israeli take over of their land in the 60s

oh wait... that statement would be a lie.

well, surely they are all about self determination now right........

Nope

"There's an understanding between President Mubarak and President Abbas to jointly operate the international airport," PA Information Minister Nabil Shaath said.

Cairo has also sent government personnel to man critical facilities in the Gaza Strip. Egyptian officers have been directing PA security operations.

"Abbas cannot use the security forces against Hamas or Jihad without Egyptian permission," another source said. "He could threaten, but everybody knows that the authority remains with Egypt."

Yes folks it looks like the Cairo Plan ( establishing a palestinian state to lead to a new form of war against the Israelis) is in full swing. But the thing that really warmed the depths of my heart was in the closing section of the article.

The sources said Egypt has used a carrot-and-stick approach to maintain the submission of Palestinian insurgency groups. They said the regime of President Hosni Mubarak has allowed Hamas and Jihad leaders to travel freely to Cairo. Hamas was also permitted to establish an unofficial presence in the Egyptian capital.

With this we see the Egyptian elections ( such as they are) in a new light.

The Egyptian government tossed the West a bone to allow them the free reign to occupy Gaza again.

And you won't see the Arab States or Anti-Israel moonbats and wingnuts saying a thing about it.

Why because they know what is going on is all about attacking Israel, not affirming a Palestinian nation.

People who speak to the fiction of a historical Palestinian nation, or a Palestinian national identity get talked down as nut jobs. But here once again those "nut jobs" are shown to be right.

And this is part of President Bush's moral duty....

I wonder if we will see Jordanian occupation of the West Bank again now

Walmart is getting a whole lot sexier

Does Walmart Make you Horny Baby?

Suddenly at the forefront of taking sex aids mainstream, conservative marketer Johnson & Johnson almost overnight has doubled sales of its once-sleepy K-Y brand for the second time in four years thanks to the blockbuster summer rollout of a new line of massage oils. And nowhere has that success been greater than at Wal-Mart, where K-Y Touch Massage oils have hit the list of top 10 new health and beauty products of 2005, according to J&J VP-Personal Care Marketing Jim Peterson.

First Sex toys now this.

And those of you folks there who talk about walmart trying to force values on america... as you see GREED eventually takes over as does capitalism.

The first ever Inside Larry's Head Open comment thread

As I am all about jumping on the bandwagon of other blogging trends.

I offically declare Harriet Miers closed

Until something new and IMPORTANT happens

Some more Bad Signs on the Miers pick

Over at the Opinion Journal

Another issue will involve Ms. Miers's tenure as head of the Texas Lottery Commission, where lottery director Nora Linares was fired in a scandal involving influence-peddling and lottery contracts. In a curious move, the White House announced this week that regarding the Linares matter, "Harriet Miers has never commented and will not now on what was a personnel matter." That is unlikely to remain a tenable position.

As Jerome Corsi and the folks at WND have reported Ms. Mier's role in the Lottery Commission isn't without controversy. Investigations got cut off and the like. This will come up, it is going to have to. It is an implication that Ms. Miers was involved in political corruption. The "I won't comment" card can't work for this... especially if she tries the I won't comment card on Roe V Wade

The Miers pick had its origin in the selection of John Roberts last July. Ms. Miers was praised for her role in selecting him and the wildly positive reaction. At that point, a senior White House official told the Washington Post that William K. Kelley, the deputy White House counsel who had been appointed to his post only the month before, stepped in. The Post reported that Mr. Kelley "suggested to [White House Chief of Staff] Andy Card that Miers ought to be considered for the next seat that opened."

If this is true the Harry Reid story is less about him suggesting the idea, and more about him sealing the deal on the idea. Which shoots the whole "comprimise canidate" theme out of the water.

Also her deputy suggesting this adds the question did the deputy want her job? did people want to "peter principle" her out of the position.

No good comes from this

hehehe....."Suicide"

Dictatorial Fun for the whole family (Washtimes)

A Syrian official who declined to speak on the record told the Associated Press that Gen. Kenaan shot himself in the mouth with a silencer-equipped gun. A colleague found him slumped at his desk and a pool of blood on the ground, the official said.

and the Washington Times article also paints a better picture about the suicide and why it might not be what some of us in the bloggersphere think

But Oklahoma University Middle East scholar Joshua Landis, now in Damascus, noted that Gen. Kenaan was known to be close to Mr. Hariri and had opposed efforts by others in Syria to support his rival, former Lebanese President Emile Lahoud.
"If Washington were to turn to anyone to carry out a coup against Bashar, it would have to place Ghazi Kenaan at the top of the list," Mr. Landis wrote in an analysis yesterday.

We may have to wait a decade or two to find out what really happened
